Saw a beautiful Steel Grey M5 this morning and it peaked my interest. Anyone know what's the last year it was produced? Might start looking around for one since my wife's lease ends next year.

Anything I need to know about certain model years?

2003 was the last year of the E39 M5.

correct, 2002 has a higher re-sale value for some reason though...odd....

have an 02 sterling grey one.. nothing really to look out for... fairly reliable motor.. some minor stuff to look out for but not a big deal are o2 sensors, MAF sensors.

My bro has a 2000. I seem to remember his clutch having some difficulties. It was in fine condition but sometimes in spirited driving, it would slip.
Probably because of the weight of the car and the HP..

- I do remember hearing this being somewhat of a common problem.

So far, sounds pretty reliable. Maybe it was a sterling grey I saw today (not sure of the difference). Probably leaning towards a 2002-2003 model.

Anyone know if only 5 speeds were created? Does it have the 16:9 NAV? What are some of the best mods to look for?

Not sure where you are located, but Desimone BMW in South Jersey has a beautiful Blue '02 M5, 34k miles, $49.9k. Saw it the other day.

And yes - it has the 16:9 Nav.

mid 01's on had widescreen NAVs. 03/03 on has MK4 DVD NAV. All E39 M5 are 6speeds. Best mods??? depends... I just got my Tubi.. :thumbup:
