Lamborghini crash in Santa Monica

Probably more damage to the Lambo than to all the other cars combined. I'd hate to be one of those owners when they go to work and find their car all messed up.

http://cbs2.com/topstories/local_story_060100936.html

(CBS) SANTA MONICA, Calif. A Lamborghini crashed into five parked cars in Santa Monica Thursday, and the driver was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

The accident at Ocean Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard occurred about 2:30 a.m., Santa Monica police Sgt. Shane Talbot said.

David August Johnson and a male passenger in the Italian sports car were taken to a hospital to be checked out, but neither appeared to be seriously injured, Talbot said.

A woman who lives near the intersection said she heard a high-powered car going up and down the street shortly before the wreck.

The silver-colored Lamborghini, which is valued at approximately $300,000, appeared to be totaled, and at least three of the parked cars were heavily damaged.

Lamborghinis, most of which are powered by a V-12 engine, are among the most powerful and expensive street-legal vehicles made.

AzNMpower32 03-01-2007 05:05 PM

Thank god I never see idiots in exotics around here. I see plenty (relatively speaking) of exotics, but the people driving them are clearly 40+ and mature enough.

Thunder22 03-01-2007 05:05 PM

SANguru 03-01-2007 05:11 PM

not to justify the dumbass's actions but lambo's (both Murci's minus the LP640s and the Gallardos) are very easy to drive fast.. limits are very high, very stable with AWD even in the snow and rain and not snappy like the ferraris.

Obviously, he's the exception to that rule ;)

x5GuyInLA 03-01-2007 05:16 PM

I think the report also said that he was already on probation for drunk driving...apparently he didn't learn his lesson the first time. At least no one was killed.

SANguru 03-01-2007 05:16 PM

no kidding.. looking at the video, you could easily make that turn at 100.. Just ask AutoXer! it becomes a target fixation issue.. kinda like riding a motorcycle and only looking 2 feet ahead.

If that's the case, I wonder how f*cked up must he have been to lose control of a car like that?

SANguru 03-01-2007 05:20 PM

pretty f-ed up. Too bad... I almost bought that car... it was a nice combo.

yeah, that turn isn't bad...in a car like that you could take it to 100 easily w/o losing control. I'm surprised he didn't take it down PCH. I guess he wasn't too messed up to realize that there are too many CHPs on that road.

SANguru 03-01-2007 05:26 PM

not that you should of course!! ;)

I think he means your Ferrari and the silver Murcielago.

And I agree with everybody else that you need a lot of maturity to drive a beast like that...just because you can buy one dosen't mean you should...

SANguru 03-01-2007 05:53 PM

2 very different cars.. Best way to describe it - Challenge Stradale = Scapel, Murcielago = Sledgehammer.

The CS is of course a lot more rare and one of the most sought after modern fcars. Think of it as a barely street legal race car - 2700lbs 425hp, revs like crazy, R compound race tires, CCMs, no carpet, no radio, rock hard race seats but it is so very connected.. it's telepathic. Pinnacle of ferrari racing technology. Nice example of a CS is in the 200K range and going UP.

Murcie is cushy but very fast... 570hp V12, tons of torque, very quiet, very stable, AWD, has radio, weighs 4000lbs, entire body is carbon fibre.
Basically a very fast GT car. 02 and 03's are $210-190K depending on mileage and condition.

Is Lindsey Lohan behind the wheel again already?

motordavid 03-01-2007 06:51 PM

A Repeato drunk driver...throw his azz in the joint for awhile and
make him walk/take "public trans" for a couple three years.

A recent grad of the Let'emEatCake school of social disregard,
no doubt.

Yea, but around here, most of the owners are 40+. SoCal may be different.

Here, the idiots tend to drive fart-can ricers and way-too-loud muscle cars. The worst of these must be the Subie WRX, a tuner favorite. :thumbdown

AutoXer 03-02-2007 01:46 AM

Late to the party! But ouch!

kvin 03-02-2007 04:47 AM

any one with pics of the crash? he is a complete idiot to totale the lambo.

x5GuyInLA 03-02-2007 04:50 AM

no pics of the crash itself...was asleep at 2:30am, but check out the video of the aftermath on the right of the webpage

Wagner 03-02-2007 06:04 AM

too much car, too little skill

the head 03-02-2007 10:58 AM

Most people just cant handle high end sports cars and many get a false sense of security driving the newer versions...Countaches were tiny not many people could fit in them...Diablo VTs are a pretty scary car to drive...I have heard that the Murci though is a different animal supposedly VERY comforting and confidence inspiring...a definate problem for inexpierenced drivers with thier first exotic...too bad for the car...people need to be taught how to drive these vehicles before they take them out on the road...they are too lethal in the hands of an idiot...
