Woohoo.

Time to clean up the X and throw the 20's back on

March is usually the time I pick to change shoes again, how about the rest of ya?

X5Jay 03-04-2007 09:01 AM

I think I changed back to my 19s in late March last year. I'll probably do the same this year too. Hey, that's in only 3 weeks! Woohoo is right!!! :dancing: :bmw: :dancing: :bmw: :dancing: :bmw:

cmyX6go 03-04-2007 09:33 AM

 I just put on my snows in January...I'll probably switch them out when I get back from Sunfest.

Hey Jay - 7 days...:wow: Was it as nice in Boston as it was here yesterday morning? Spring is almost here.

trueX5er 03-04-2007 10:44 AM

Since I don't have snows, I usually change the floor mats from weathertech to the carpeted ones in two or three weeks.
And they are the weathertechs that are made for the E53. They kinda sorta fit.

Dr_Smith 03-04-2007 10:58 AM

the way the weather is going here I'm looking at April before I can switch :(

AzNMpower32 03-04-2007 11:06 AM

Probably within the next week or so, when I can find a good (and inexpensive) place to remount the tires, since we don't have a seperate pair of rims.

Woohoo again - 7 days 'till clock change! Yep - it was really nice yesterday, but late in the day the temp dropped quite a bit and we got some heavy wind and rain. It's clear again today, but much cooler - about 37 right now - my X just told me... ;)

Yep. April at the earliest. I'll won't think about swapping on the big wheels until my crocuses bloom.

SuperGreg 03-04-2007 01:39 PM

75 here today, 81 tomorrow :nanana:

You should really try to find a set of inexpensive rims for your snows - it would save wear and tear on your nice wheels and it's a heck of alot easier to just change 'em yourself.

LeMansX5 03-04-2007 02:47 PM

Early April for me.

Actually, my plan is to put on the M+S this spring, and they should wear out by the time winter rolls around again. Then I will mount the winter tires on the stock 17" rims, and at the same time buy a 18" summer wheel + tire package to swap in the future. Then when next spring rolls around, I will just pop in the 18" wheels and summer tires.

In reality, the 17" handle just fine, and its not like the 2.5 has enough power to overwhelm the 17" tires in the corner except on tight corners when my foot is to the floor and DSC is off. However, 18s look more substantial on the X3, and I've never been a huge fan of the Style 111s that came with my X3.

Or maybe I should save up that money towards the purchase of a used E46. Hmm.......

jwilburn 03-04-2007 04:34 PM

I wish I had wheels to switch out. But suprisingly the 19's did alright with the snow here.

I did my big "spring cleaning" the other week. Oh course it blizzarded the next day..grr...but hey the interior looks great. Maybe next week I will wash it again and zymol the inside.

JV 03-04-2007 05:44 PM

I rolled on 20"s all winter and never had a problem. They did a great job clearing the roads this year and we didn't get much.

You think they did a good job clearing the roads here? I guess the main ones were alright. But side streets were bad. I def used my all wheel drive to park on some snow banks a couple of times.

My way sucked, both "storms" put about 8" in my area and the roads until the Interstate were crap.

I live near a main thoroughfare and less than 2 miles from 495/395 so I never have to drive much on side streets. When I mentioned that they did a good job this year, I was mostly talking about the contractors in my 'hood, cause they were out as soon as the first flake fell with the plows and salt. Where VDOT was responsible, I had no complaints and in downtown DC (Penn Quarter) DCPW had it all cleared, but that's the first part of town they get to, as you probably know.

+1. Lanes would disappear and reappear out of nowhere, and the slush left over quickly froze. One incident with a disappearing lane and not-well-cleared slush on I-270 put the X3's braking abilities to the test, something I've never done up until that point.

BUT MDOT's job was amazing compared to what PennDOT did. Or what they didn't do.

Haha yeah we had a couple of disappearing lanes. Glad the X3's brake stood up to the test!

Credit the winter tires too! Glad I was the one driving, because I think I did the right thing. Your average driver might have hit the brakes and jerked the steering wheel back into another lane, and for a split second that was what I wanted to do. But that would have likely caused a spinout due to the ice. I just stood on the brakes and aimed straight, got it down from 65-40mph in 4 secs or so. It was like :wow: "holy sh*t this thing can stop with 2 wheels on ice!"

yeowzer 03-05-2007 11:40 AM

Probably the first week of April. March and April are the snowiest months in Colorado.

the head 03-05-2007 11:43 AM

First week of april here possibly the last week in march but really depends...april is basically the end of our snow for the year

Michelle 03-06-2007 07:44 PM

Did ya switch your wheels, Wag? Better put them back on if you did!

ljnlaw 03-06-2007 09:52 PM
