Uh-Oh...computer troubles
I was simply browsing online, I had safari open, as well as iTunes, when I set my hand down on the computer (an iBook 14'') kind of hard, and then the song started to skip (play about .4 of a second of a song over and over again) and then I got the "you need to restart your computer now" screen, which is the equivelent of the Windows Blue Screen of Death. I closed the screen, but nothing happened. I seriously freaked out, because I have a ton of valuable stuff on my computer.
The larger issue is that, if not for the factory one year warranty, I would have had exactly $1,659 worth of repairs on this computer alone. I have gotten the HD replaced twice, the motherboard once, a new keyboard, and what they call "Repair level one" three times. It is a lemon computer. My screen is falling out of it's braket. And it's terrible because I love macs. I think they are the best thing ever. So my question is, is there some sort of lemon law, or a system like Best Buy's where if you computer needs repair over five times, they give you a new one? I have basically exchanged the guts of the computer, but this is getting out of control. My warranty was up a few months ago. Now I know always take the extended warranty. It is a Apple iBook (Mid 2005) 14'' 10.4.8 with a 1.42 Power PC G4 and 512 memory. Thanks a ton guys. |

Stop dropping it? :dunno:
Have a Powerbook G5 for a few years now with no problems. I think Apple saved by not using the durable parts of the Powerbook when they made the iBook, though. Not in the same league, quality wise. |
Sorry to hear about your problems. Here are a few observations. First things first stop abusing the computer. You can't expect it to give you good service if you bang it.
Now go and gather up all your repair receipts for your mac. Make copies of all the paperwork that documents every single issue that you have had. I mean dates everything you can think of. Write a nice letter (I Really do mean nice) to Apple in Cupertino kindly expressing your issues providing accumulated evidence and a time line. Mail it registered mail. Secondly ( most people don't do this) Make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. Take your laptop and and see what they say. Keep track of that info as well. If they fix it your good to go. Quote:

guys, I'm not beating it. :) That shouldn't be the problem. I'm not hitting or dropping it. Thanks for the advise, Quicksilver. I'll gather up my reciepts and send 'em over.
I've been to the Genius bar one to many times when the computer was under warranty, so I doubt they will do anything for me now that it's out. Thanks guys. |
:tsk: silly Apples.......
Seriously though, sounds like you have had some issues with this system prior to this. |
That's what i'm talking about. If you have had this much documented trouble you really should appeal directly to Apple to give you another Computer at a reduced rate. Loyal customers often do this. So you gotta squeek nice and loud because the squeeky wheel gets the oil. Above all be nice but persistant.
