Got an out of state speeding ticket yesterday...
Got a 15 over speeding ticket in Louisiana yesterday heading for the airport with the rental car. Since I live in Wisconsin what are my options besides paying the $203? Will the out of state ticket show up on my record? I've had only 2 previous tickets in my 30 years of driving and this is the first one from out of state. It was an empty stretch of highway in central Louisiana (Hwy 28 Near Leesville) and it went from 65 limit to 55 without any change in the road such as a town, intersection or anything. I honestly thought it was still a 65 zone. The young state trooper didn't offer to drop the speed over or anything. As soon as I handed him my Wisconsin license along with my military ID he stated "I will be issuing you a citation for speeding today". You think he was out to get me because I was from out of state or because I was driving a Mustang for my rental car? He knew I was on my way to the airport to turn in the rental. Has anyone else dealt with an out of state ticket before?

Yeah I hate situations like this, tickets. I dont know much about the regulations between states, but my brother who lives in Arizona told me that if he gets a ticket out of state it does not go on his record. Something about how it is a "non-tranistant" state. If this is the case. I may try and get residency in AZ hahaha. Tricky...

it will only show up as points if the states are reciprocal, which they probably aren't. NY/NJ are, but not with CT, which is strange.
You just pay the fine and vow to be a better citizen ;) |

Why is it this info is always seems to be taboo....it seems like I always hear a different fact about whether the states talk to each other. |
I wonder if Maryland has any agreements with neighboring states like VA.

here ya go, they now have an agreement between 45 states called the NRVC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Res...olator_Compact basically states tell each other of MAJOR offenses like dui and suspensions, non-payment of fines etc, but they won't affect your home state license if you pay the fines. best bet is to call your local DMV though. |

question for british members
I received a bill in the mail from Hertz UK charging my amex $75 for administrative costs for my wife and daughter's visit to wales in early february. They were apparently photo'd in their rental car and Hertz charges you $75 for their turning your name into the authorities.
Betty thought that the photo radar signs were just there to scare you and 100mph was permissable. The scary part is they were caught on the first day of their 10 day visit leaving the airport and I am wondering how many more tickets are in process for the remainder of their visit. The ticket has not arrived yet and I was wondering about the fines in UK. fred |

If you ever plan on coming back to Louisiana pay the ticket...if not take your chances.
If you dont pay the ticket and you are back in Louisiana at a later date and get pulled over, you are going to jail. |

It's just a great driving road. Windy, undulating, blind curves, narrow.... it's fun. |

http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_...eedVSFines.htm I doubt the authorities will chase it though - just too much hassle and cost. Also technically they have to inform you within 14 days of the offence, (although don't know how that applies to overseas). |
Stumpy-Thanks for the Blackadder reference, my wife started to cry while I was rolling on the floor. We received the Hertz bill 3 weeks after the incident but have yet to hear from any authorities. By coincidence they were on the way to Edinborough for a rugby match which they watched in the pouring rain.

I'm off to watch the rugby in Edinburgh tomorrow as well, and guess what?.... the forecast is for pouring rain too! Couldn't go to the Wales game as my son was born 5 days before! |
