BMW in NASCAR?

A few of the other message boards I've been reading are speculating that BMW and Audi are considering NASCAR entries, based on the size/specs of the new 3 series coupe and A5. The cars are also similar in shape/design...

Any thoughts?

How can BMW and Audi be in the same class as the GMs and Ford  Granted the 700hp engines they run are not stock engines and I'm no gearhead but it just doesn't seem right. How are they going to address weight variances and things like that? Prior to Dodge coming in a few years back the cars were almost identical, I'm sure they worked something out to put the Dodge on the same level as the GMs but aren't BMWs vs GMs like apples and oranges?

The only think "stock" in NASCAR is the shape of the body, what's under the skin is all race engineered, so they could build a car that meets the weight rules etc. The issue would be that BMW and Audi would have to build carbureted push-rod V8's... .which is probably not something that they'ld be interested in as they don't sell them.

It's just too coincidental that Audi and BMW both come out with 2 door coupes that are "NASCAR sized" in the same year. AND, that they have a V8 option, more so the Audi than the BMW...

just thinking out loud, probably won't happen...

The only reason Toyota is in it is because of the Tundra. BMW doesn't cater to the demographic that follows nascar. If anything such a move would hurt them.

Toyota in NASCAR. First foreign Co. aloud.
BMW wants in. And why not, they make the fastest engines in the world.

OK, Toyota is in the Craftman Truck series, not Winston Cup (oops, what do they call it now ) or Busch.
