Continuing Education
 

What do you think of the requirements for certain licensed professions, such as realtors, to obtain a certain amount of continuing education each year? Is this a good idea, or yet another government intrusion into our lives? If the licensee does not get the required number of hours of education at his own expense, should he be fined or stripped of his license?

Come on doc. ;) That education stuff is all tax deductable and you know it. :rolleyes: The same guy that worked on BMW's in 1957 may need some additional training in order to work on my X5. And so from year to year his lic. needs to be upgraded as well. Otherwise you would have every shade tree mechanic/doctor working without any legitimate oversight. Not good IMHO. :rofl: OBTW. No training, no lic.

January of this year in order to do Electrical work in California a person must have a license. Sure there's some govt stuff behind the scenes but how would you like some jack of all trades wireing your house. I've seen their work, :trustme: you do not want to go there. :rofl:

I think continuing ed is a good idea but like a number of good ideas its overdone.

I think continuing education is extremely important. Especially when an individual is in a profession that is continually changing. Realtors here in AZ must attend continuing ed. courses every year in order to keep their credentials.

Why do you think its overdone?

In NY State to many hours and the courses don't really have content.

A Real Estate Appraiser has to take the same ethics/standards course every two year. I don't really think you can teach ethics.

So you think the courses should be fewer hours but more content? You lost me in the whirling contradictions.:confused:

I work in the insurance industry and I too think continuing education is a good idea because things change every month and it is important when your working with peoples money to be as knowledgeable as possible

Continuing professional education is important throughout the world. Not only "forces" the regular GP to get up to date, but it will improve his performance, hopefully ensuring that patients get the most up to date therapy. As a specialist, it also makes us keep current on a broad range of cutting-edge research benefiting the industry and patients.

This is not only a medical issue, but also will be applied to other professionals in the near future. With the speed of development thesedays, it is important to be stay current.

Those who are not are possibly providing a disservice to clients.
