If you plan on street racing dont have another person in the car...I have seen too many passengers killed by driver mistakes

on the other side of things you should NEVER give a 16yr old kid a decent sports car unless they have had classes on how to drive one

No kidding! From the looks of it, they should have had to have been life-flighted out. They need to make some regular appearances in church for a while...

So you're saying street racing is ok, at least as long as 16 year-olds have classes?

Two different thoughts

1. if taking your life into your own hands don't bring a passenger

2. dont give little kids big kid cars

as for street racing I have done it since I was 18 and had been a spectator since 14...so I don't see a lot of issue with it but you must be smart about it...we used to race out in an industiral park...from about 11pm-5am on fridays and saturdays...the only people there were us

That is nuts, he could he killed someone, I don't think street racing is ever ok in public, hopefully this teaches him a lesson!

It never ceases to amaze me how indulgent parents can be of their children, and more importantly, how thoughtless they can be. Sort of explains why much of the younger generation is the way it is. Sure, give your 16 year old who just got his license a sports car. How many similar crashes have we seen with E46 M3's, etc? Before all you young'ins get all in a huff, I know many teens are responsible and good drivers, blah, blah, blah. Be that as it may, there is no replacement for experience behind the wheel. Without it, and with a powerful sports car in the hands of a young person who cannot help but test the limits of the sports car, you're asking for disaster.

I have a powerpoint show with a bunch of pics of an Audi (A4 maybe? hard to tell) that hit a tree in europe. Same thing, one half of the car here, other half over there, and two body bags.
I'd post a pic, but this computer doesnt have the right program to open the file... :(

:hijack: This topic reminds me of a post on some other car forum where a guy wondered why his Lexus IS300 spun out and lost control in the wet, hitting a tree, after he had Armor All'd his tires... the whole tire. He thought the sidewalls looked so good all wet and shiny he decided to grease up the tread too. :rofl:

Not only is that driver stupid enough to drive that way, but also irresponsible for having someone else. If you're gonna crash, don't take someone else down with you. What if someone was walking their dog or there was a bicyclist when the Z crashed? I'm sure we'd all appreciate turning our heads and seeing half a car fly at our heads.................!ouch:

I disagree with your blanket statement re: young drivers, I went through a lot of training before getting my pink and white piece of plastic.

I am stating that there is a time an place for everything...it is not a matter of people streetracing or not it is a matter of how smart they are...where they choose to have said contests of speed...with tracks closing due to sound ordinances, pollution, whatever street racing is only going to get worse...contrary to popular belief you can create a controlled enviornment on the street...this allows for racers and spectators to enjoy themselves...possibly make a little cash and of course see who is faster...as stated I have been a street racer for a long time...in a controlled street enviornment (we use a 2 mile strech in an old industrial park) I have never seen an accident...the main issue is since street racing is such a generic term many other things get lumped into this catagory...like the guy doing 100+ on the beltway during rushhour, or the two idiots running redlights at speed through busy intersections, etc. There are safty margins you can build into any situation...the ability and restraint to do that comes from age/expierence

This coming from a person that talks about how much he likes speeding in his BMW in his sig, sounds like you have that restraint thing down and for the record I am not talking about not giving kids SUVs I am talking about sports cars...Dare I ask what kind of training you went through?
