Ford as reliable as Toyota
Even our last week’s ‘Funny but true’ post was about Ford being the ‘most trusted’ brand in the UK, and Ford steals the honor again this week. It seems that the quality of Ford vehicles is up to par with their Japanese competitors including Toyota and Nissan. According to the first-quarter 2007 model-year Global Quality Research System report by the RDA Group, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles have the same quality as Toyota and Nissan.
Consisting of survey of more than 30,000 owners of 2007 models that owned the vehicle for at least three months, the research found that Ford, Lincoln, Mercury brand vehicles had 1,456 problems per 1,000 vehicles, compared with Toyota’s 1,453 and Nissan’s 1,457. The scary part in all this is that Ford’s most popular new vehicles, the Ford Edge and Ford Super Duty, were not involved in the survey. The 2007 Ford Expedition and Ford Fusion helped with the outcome of the results. While the report did not look at long-term quality, Ford’s Vice President of Global Quality, Bennie Fowler said, “It indicates what you’re going to see long-term.” Now who said American cars weren’t reliable? Good job Ford, and goodluck on retaining your number 3 spot for as long as you can. Source: Detroit Free Press http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/04/18...ta-in-quality/ |
I've always known this deep down....Camry getting build quality issues while Fusion is praised for good build quality and reliablity....Go Ford!

Just for American prides sake I hope the Big 3 pull out of this one soon

I feel we aren't giving enough credit to the Big Three for their overall progress the past couple years. At the same time, we're dismissing import quality concerns and recalls. Take the Scion tC..........that has so many issues and recalls that I wouldn't buy one, even if its later model year. Once I rode my friend's tC, and he said that the side airbags weren't working. Imagine how I felt.
Ford Fusion is an excellent vehicle in its price range. Interior design needs improvement, but driving dynamics are decent. |
Go Ford! I just took a ride in my neighbor's new F350 SuperDuty and all I can say is WOW! What a sweet truck. It's a 6.4L PowerStroke F350 extended cab longbed. It's many times better than my 2003 King Ranch F250 6.0 PowerStroke.

Their stuff isn't perfect yet. The Fusion rental had an annoying rattle in the driver's window (it had 16k miles, and it's a rental........so I was somewhat accepting). |
The Fusion is made in Mexico.

Well, as soon as Chrysler implodes on itself, Ford becomes #2 by default ;)
The US needs the Big 3 to be better, this is great news. |

My fast pass on your original post led me to false conclusions. |
As far as Toyota's quality issues go...I'm all for more american jobs and what not, but their quality really has tanked compared to what it used to be when their vehicles were exclusively built in Japan.

Well their vehicles were also built in much smaller numbers. Any business losses some of its quality with exponential growth. But good point none the less. |

I have posted this before: The Big Three's problem at this moment is not the quality of their vehicles; it's the perception that their vehicles are of lower quality.
Good for Ford. I hope it continues... Juan |

Just that when you start producing more units, regardless of what business you're in, you usually will take a quality hit because of larger scale mass production. Toyota has become HUGE in the last 5-10 years. |

I also hope they recover. Maybe they are learning about service and
quality now. Toyota has def had more service problems over the past 5 years as they sub out more parts to be built elsewhere. |
