Interchange from 80-880 in Oakland collapses

OAKLAND, Calif. - An interchange connecting highways to the busy Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge collapsed early Sunday after a tractor trailer hauling 8,600 gallons of gasoline caught fire, authorities said.

The truck’s driver suffered second-degree burns, Officer Trent Cross of the California Highway Patrol told KGO-TV.

The tanker ignited after crashing into a pylon on an interchange connecting westbound lanes of Interstate 80, which includes the Bay Bridge, to southbound I-880 in Oakland, officials said

This is NOT going to buff right out.

Everyone is fine except the driver who has some serious burns. It was an early morning issue but it will effect east bound traffic from San Francisco.

traffic was bad enough. this is going cause a lot of traffic into the toll plaza

Oh man, just the Springfield Mixing Bowl in Northern VA is just asking for that to happen.

Btw, has anyone seen the overpass interchange from I-95 to the Powhatan expressway south of Richmond, VA? That is one super-high overpass :wow:. Must drive it sometime.

no traffic at all. The bay bridge is CLOSED in both directions due to collapse concerns on the lower deck which could end up falling back down on 80. Also it's 80 to 580E onramp not 880. Traffic is going to be a nightmare going into the city next couple weeks from the san mateo side.

update.. they just opened on the bay bridge from 80 section going up to Sacramento/Emeryville.

Hopefully with enough heads up folks will make the adjustment. But this one is gonna take a bit to fix no doubt.
