womens rights
Does anyone else think its crazy that slaves got the right to vote in 1866 and women werent allowed to vote till 1915. thats crazy shit
|
Doesn't make sense, but what does?
Check your history: blacks got to vote, on occasion, in about a dozen places, post 1866, and for a long time after. The Civil Rights Act was a marvelous piece of legislation that had little to no effect in most parts of the US, (Tenn was just being readmitted under Reconstruction), and if one had a beef about not "being treated equal", it usually fell on deaf ears or by a gunning sheriff or, a lynch mob. It was, and still is, the basis for equal protection under the law, discrimination, etc. Do some homework on Right to Vote, state by state, etc. Yes, Women were treated as chattel then... Hope I helped on your homework, lol! BR,mD |
oh....i was actually on the other sidde of the argument.

As with many other laws, having the law on the books is not enough. They must enforce the law too. |

I read that yesterday, can't say I agree with those "statistics" in certain situations. The whole de-segregated prom thread a while back was a far more 'obvious' abuse. |
Are you surprised? It's the south, I knew I was in for a surpise when I visited northern Florida and GA but I was still shocked, it's a complete 180 of the more developed states, it is quite a culture shock!

Hey QS, while the issue of racial police stops are a serious issue that needs to be addressed and corrected, I couldn't help but think of this segment from Chris Rock. Yes, I know we've all seen it, but it still makes me laugh my ass of.. Best, B << My post has been self edited to exclude video found to be offensive by another member. My bad >> |
Sorry B, but the Language was to offensive so i didn't get very far with it.

My bad QS,
I didn't intentionally post that to offend you or anyone else for that matter. I thought it was in good fun. My bad, B |

My wife/CEO of 25 years spent a couple years in her first marriage to a punqeazz wife beater. Her black eyes, nearly broken arm, bumps on her head, etc., were not pleasant for her. And, she is involved with our local group called Reach: a haven and aid assistance for battered women, of which is nearly epidemic here in western NC. Grandpappy did it, Pappy did it, so I'm gonna toss the bitch around the trailer...this orginization hears that daily. This in a County of only 55,000. Not a pleasant deal and totally uncalled for, imo. Not being PC...I just don't see the humor in bouncing one's wife or girlfriend around. |
im sorry about ur wife but to each his own on the joke thing......i dont tell you how to dress and you dont tell me what to laugh at......
|
 ...
I'm not telling you what to laugh at... You aren't gonna tell me anything beyond what you have told me. |
I must have missed the whole wife/chain meaning. The addition of wives and black eyes is out of my league. My comment was more of a joke about me when the wife catches me on the internet all the time...I quickly change tabs from the chat room to a work related website.
Abusing women is about the weakest thing a man can do in my opinion. Men who beat women need a good thumping by a man twice their size. Michael |
groan....after those replies i almost thought i was talking to a couple of women

You started this thread with your incredulity about women's sufferage. Jokes are fun; giving women a couple of black eyes is not. Grow up. Get Real. |

As for drug offenders, I've never heard someone express an opinion that not enough of them are being put away. Just the opposite, most people complain that too many drug offenders are cluttering up the prison system. We have more people per capita in prison than any other country in the world. Here in New York State, the population hasn't changed much since 1970. In 1970, New York State had 7 prisons. Today we have 73, and are still building new ones every year. What you have to understand is that crime is not a cause but a symptom. To eliminate it, you must prevent it, not only deal with it once it happens. All too often people only want to "fight" crime, and not deal with the underlying causes of crime. The result of that is that one out of every 100 Americans is behind bars. |

You won't get no support from me on this one either. Personally :iagree: with MD. One thing your right about there are a few old farts around here who #1 prefer not hearing a potty mouth and #2 believe respecting women is important. :nanana: Quote:

Here we go :)
- I think MD took it a little personally on the joke front, but since this is a public arena, public responses are to be expected. - Quick had his own public comments, which are fine. - Seems WhiteWhipperSnapper took the responses a little personally instead of just brushing them off for what they're worth. Bottom line, not everyone is going to think your sh_t is funny. Don't cry about it when you find that out. |
I am with MD and supporters.
I don't think there was anything funny about it, and that it was offensive. Yes, it is a public forum, but a modicum of respect never hurt anybody. Whitewhippersnapper, it isn't about us telling you what to laugh at, you can laugh at whatever you like. It is about you broadcasting material that has no place in society. If that makes me an old fart, then so be it. I just thought it made us human. |

Everyone has certian subjects that are thier "sacred cows" things that for whatever reason trigger responses such as this...remeber this is a public forum...thats right kiddies publik 4um...which means that people may not always agree with your opinion...that goes for both sides on this thing...you always have the choice to read something or not...you chose to read it didn't like it? fine...feel that it was in poor taste? say something! then leave the thread instead of trying to force your opinion on others if you are posting multiple times then hey you are now an active participant in the tread that offended you...it's the internet do you honestly think your opinion is really going to matter to another person?
|
No sacred cows in my backyard...just common, human sense.

Head, I'm gonna take an El Paso on this continual rhubarb and
arm wrestle, after my last 2Cts... Let me say this, clearly to you and, to anyone else: Abusing women, or men, in a marriage or relationship, or in some manner not defending oneself, is not OK, imo. My wife was abused so obviously I am aware/sensitive to that situ, normal, abnormal...take your fookin pick. As to my "overreaction": I have never molested a kid nor, was I molested as a kid, yet I wouldn't find child molestation "jokes" funny either. I was never screwed over or, to my knowledge, screwed over someone based on their/my veneer color. Yet, I don't find racial jokes very funny, either. My point is: the OP was incredulous about Women's Sufferage coming officially so "late" after the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and it turned into some jokes and commentary. One of those jokes I objected to, as giving a women 2 shiners was, imo, not a funny joke, nor something to be joked about and made light of... And, here we are, with who struck John and who's on first. My point was and is, that abusing a spouse or partner is not the human way to proceed in a relationship; yes, it happens. To make light of it in a snidely, vacuous manner is off base, In My Opinion. Sorry if I missed that "old joke" the first few times around. I'm done with this thread. There may be other comment and, opins are certainly like azzholes, but I'm through with this. Good Luck, mD |
