The word 'please'
 

has got to be the most underused word in the engrish language, and is so EVERYWHERE I go. This problem doesn't seem to be age, gender, race, income, etc specific. Doesn't bother me when people don't say it to me. It's the principle/idea of basic respect towards another person, and the lack of it in today's society, that bothers me. I'm sure this stems from a deeper root and what not.. dunno where today's problems are going to end..

What's the point of striving for greater things in life when one can't accomplish the basic feat of courtesy? :thumbdown

ehh. people who have this common respect are hard to find, but when you find them you have a certain respect that you just don't see these days.

Unfortunately, "please" has also lost its meaning along with "sorry". It seems as if people often tack these words onto a sentence when they really don't mean it. I've really heard the phrase "Please shut the **** up" way too many times :confused:

Seriously though, I agree in that everyone lacks basic respect for each other. On that same note, some kids have zero respect for their parents so whay should they care about anyone else? It's all about what you have to do for me.

Which principal are you reffering to?

Lots of people ask this question but those same people when given the answer usually don't like it.

Here's something that i ask you to please consider:

SOCIETY needs a framework of basic values that gives its members security and guidance. What that means is that In order for human society to be stable and prosperous, the people must have a bedrock of commonly accepted standards that identify what is right or wrong, good or bad. The question is: What standards are the best, both for society and for its members, and who sets those standards?

Just look around and it's easy to see that everyone want's to do their own thing. Everything is right no matter who does it, and nothing is either good or bad because it's up to each individual to establish what's right or wrong for themselves. It's what some people call freedom. I will do as i please as long as it dosen't hurt anyone else. But is that really freedom? Is it true that the choices we make don't effect others. Can men really be that stupid?

The reality of that thinking is that sooner or later a battle will wage between everyone's freedom and what is right. The result? chaos will be the fruit that will sprout, and humanity will have to answer for their self centered attitude. ;)

I wish I knew, but it's a bit harder for me to comment since I don't know what has changed along the way. Someone older would have better perspective. You did a fine job in the post above.

My hunch is that a lot of people people seem to have a narcissistic/ superiority complex, however minute it may be. We are all created equal..is that so hard to remember?

It doesn't bother me when I don't receive the word because I've come to not expect it.

There's nothing to like considering the direction we're headed in.

I can't such much other than I agree. There will be a turning point (very much hope so), and hopefully it will be sooner than later.
