Computer help please !
 

How can I view a HD from the old computer on my new system, the old HD had problem booting up, both Have Win XP pro on them.

When I put the old HD on the new computer as slave I can see the other users documents but I can’t access the main user’s file.

are you logged on the machine as an Admin or joeblow user?

admin !

when u installed the OS on the new PC, did u use the same username?
i believe the user names must be exact. let me look into it.

different user names, ATA. !

you might need to log onto the partition with an admin account that was present on the original system.

what directory path is invisible to you?

that could very well be ur problem. if ur old pc was setup for different users
requiring passwords, create that same user, w/ the same password and the same
privileges as the old user account on the new pc.

it doesn't work that way.

as long as he is logged on as admin on the new drive, he should be able to see everything.

why not click on the old drive, and set the View settings to "all types" and make them read/writeable?

what particular document type as you looking for?

perhaps you are not looking in the right spot...

I can see all the user names that were on the old drive, but there is only one of them that I can’t open, it just says access denied.



I guess I could try putting the drive into a Win 98 machine, and hope that the old drive was not a NTFS format .

take ownership of the files and folders you need to see. Creating the same user and pass will not work as the UID are different.

I have another thought. If you have a Linux bootable cd you can boot with that and it will read anyting on an NTFS partition without a problem and disregard the windows security. you can then copy everything to another disk and reboot the machine normally.
