How fast is your 'net?
(hope this isn't a repost, I searched!)
You can go to this site and take a speed test, and they have a forum link where you can post it here. Here is mine: http://www.speedtest.net/result/129270249.png post yours! |

Wow mine's embarrassing compared to everyone else's
http://www.speedtest.net/result/129278029.png Using the Fredrick, MD test site also got similar results. Does it have to do with the fact I go through a router? |

Choose a server that is clear across the country, that is a more legitimate test, seeing how fast it is going essentially next door doesn't mean anything

This is my home network. Download speed is at least 3 times faster than my business DSL. I am somewhat disappointed on upload speed. Is everyone showing similar download and upload speed are on T1+? Most of DSL uses ASDL with slow upload speed. |

Finally speeding up
My connection is finally catching up to you speedsters. In 10 years or so I should be where some of you are now. Ps Costs $80pm with a 3gb cap

Test showed what I usually have, on our wireless local home
brew deal we have here in the mtns. Isn't fast, but beats dial up, (the only other alternative here). I see those Comcast numbers from QwkAg & Vig; we enjoy those speeds at the FL Joint in winter. http://www.speedtest.net/result/525575158.png |
Not a technological person here, but I think proximity to a test server affects the results.
Unfortunately, there isn't a "close" server to me in Central Bumf*ck, VA. Ashburn in VA and Greensboro, NC yield similar results ~10Mb/s, but the one in WV yields a fastest upload @ ~7,2 Mb/s. I'm sure it'd be faster if I wasn't using wireless. |
I F***ING HATE TIME WARNER. $60/month for this shit and it cuts out 60 times a day. No FiOS or anything in the area. Welcome to Maine.

This is mine, on my laptop wirelessly connected to ATT DSL.
I am paying for 6 MB dowloads, so I guess I am just about right. http://www.speedtest.net/result/525775791.png |

The upload is fine, but it is running a little slow on the download. I'm typically at around 12-15. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/525995244.png
Your Optimum Online is faster than mine  Might be my wireless slowing it down. Edit: Here is a freak result I got a while ago. http://www.speedtest.net/rank/1129631245.png :nanana: |
Like Statdoc, AT&T DSL here, I'm on the 6 Mb plan too. Ususally fast enough for me and I don't have much other choice other than cable. I tried cable once and the DL speed fluctuated so much I could barely watch a YouTube video :(

ok, the test could be bogus. I just tried it on 3 different machines all with different configurations of cpu/ram/hd etc and the results varied from 8-13Mb/s, the machine config definitely plays a part. (the tests were within a couple of minutes of each other) Granted I'm on Optimum so it's shared and one of my neighbors could have affected the #'s, I'll run it again tomorrow and see what I get.
here's the result from my desktop: http://www.speedtest.net/result/526043154.png |

Impressive speeds both ways...dunno why you blocked the "ISP",
as most are pretty vague. No techie, but very surprised at the upload speed and its ratio to download speed. BR,mD |

And I think that my general conclusion is that Road Runner sucks balls everywhere. Comcrap is better, Opti is best if you're willing to live in the tri-state, and Universities or big companies are just :wow: |

This is around the average I get from any of the speed test sites, just Cox.net cable service. (similar to comcast)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/526663361.png |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/526786756.png
I knew my numbers were a little low. It's advertised as 15 down/2 up, so this new one is right on the money. Optimum Online just started offering the Ultimate service, which gives you 100 down. |
I'm curious how CV is providing 100Mb/s, you and all of your neighbors are converging/sharing until you hit a switch somewhere. I'll have to poke around and find out.

Just pulled this on my production laptop...and it's wireless :wow:

It's most likely a fiber connection, and they cap the download, while not capping the upload. Nearly every fiber connection I've seen has a bigger upload than download, unlike cable or DSL. |

Comcast has a 50/10 rated product for business here that's awesome, and will have a 100 meg download product here by end of year. Don't really like the company, but the bandwidth they offer for the price smokes everything else. |

The ping times are insane for that test (< 2ms). I am guessing the test server is in the same building as the desktop/laptop :) |

Jeessshh, some of your speeds are lightning fast...
Here in the slower lanes of RetiredBumDom, via Comcrap, I get: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1255659848.png That one above, is from my wired desktop... From my laptop, via in-house wireless: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1255664891.png But, both of those so-so speeds are about 4X as fast as what I get back at the Mtn Joint. :( |
