Planning a trip...
 

Hey guys. I am planning a roadtrip for this summer, and was looking for some suggestions. I am planning a drive from San Diego to San Francisco. It will be a casual trip, no set schedule. I am looking for a scenic drive, coastal, and I wanted to hit different POIs. Any suggestions on what roads to drive, and cities/ places to hit on the way. Thanks.:thumbup:

Pacific Coast Highway - I think its 101. I've driven it between San Francisco and Los Angeles.. It's not the fastest route, especially if you get stuck behind a camper. One lane each way but the views are breathtaking. Big Sur, 17 mile drive/Pebble Beach is a must. Get your camera ready. If you can, go further north from San Francisco to the Napa Valley and take in some vineyards.
I'm sure the local boys can give you more on the POI.

Check out Hearst Castle on the way up to S.F.

Santa Barbara, Carmel/Monterey.........Pebble Beach? yes of course. Just start driving the adventure in and of itself will be remembered. If you can don't plann. Just start driving and don't get in a rush. :thumbup:

Yup, 1 up the coast all the way... If you leave early enough from L.A. (i.e. 6 a.m., you'll miss traffic and it won't make the trip that much longer than 5...)

Thats the plan, but I am looking for interesting things to do. No planning, but just would like to know what is in each area.

17 mile drive by carmel! then up hwy 1 form monterey, to santa cruz (BOARDWALK!), to half moon bay, and up to sf!

I have friends that often beg me, to drive 3 hrs. north, just so we can drive this road and come home. I've been tempted to do it.

CA 198 is a stretch of road, 68 miles long, that will bring you East/West between the 101 and 5. It has every type of turn, elevation, switch back, etc. that you could ever imagine and the scenery is nothing short of amazing.

EVERYTIME I drive from LA to northern California, I make it a point to drive this amazing, amazing road. It is just south of King City and I highly recommend to anyone who considers themselves a driving enthusiast. It's got mountain climbs, sweeping long turns, mountain decents, EVERYTHING...
