Yeah....sounds like these guys weren't even close to anything substantial.

One law enforcement official played down Mr. Defreitas’s ability to carry out an attack, calling him “a sad sack” and “not a Grade A terrorist.” Comparing the case with the plot in which a group of men were arrested last month on charges of planning to attack soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey, the official said the New Jersey plotters “were a bit further along.”

Even idiots are dangerous. The shoe bomber seemed to have an IQ of about 80 but was moments away from taking down an entire plane. You make this sound like there is nothing to fear from these Islamic threats and that we are overreacting as usual.

Then again, it is obvious that you feel what they are doing is justified so I understand your position. In your eyes and the eyes of many on the Left...Bush is at fault here for creating these guys in the first place.

Why do you put words in my mouth?

Yes, I think they should be arrested. But I certainly do not think it was worthy of being a front page news story. They were just a few nuts and were no where close to being able to carry such an attack out.

And no, I do not think any attacks on civilians for any reason is justified. It does not matter if they are done with explosives strapped to someone's back, or with cruise missles. Even one civilian death caused is terrorism in my eyes.

I'm guessing you are the one who thinks civilians deaths are justified (or acceptable) in certain cases. NOT ME!

You're kidding, right Eric? I don't even want to imagine the stuff that goes on that we don't know about. I guess maybe the front page news is a ploy to justify what Homeland Security and all the other agencies do to keep us safe.

MrLabGuy 06-03-2007 03:53 PM

Well Eric...I think the carpet bombing of Germany in WWII was justified even though I'm sure thousands of innocent German men, women and children were killed by "dumb bombs" dropped from planes in the sky.

For your information..."Cruise Missiles" were developed to minimize collateral damage in warfare. If you think all wars and battles must meet a criteria where 100% of the casualties are non-civilian then you live in a dreamworld.

Newsflash Eric...There are bad people out there who wish to do us harm regardless of who is running the country. For you to equate us with the terrorists just goes to show how out of touch with reality you really in a warped sense of delusion.

As for putting words in your mouth...I don't need to go that far. You said it yourself. "It does not matter if they are done with explosives strapped to someone's back, or with cruise missles. Even one civilian death caused is terrorism in my eyes". That statment is pretty clear. We are no better than the terrorists and therefore what they are doing is justified as a response to our actions in the world.

Wow that's a frightening plot, esp. seeing as how I'm going to be flying to SF this week (albeit not from NY). Glad to see they were caught before their plot progressed.

You don't need to be a genius to kill people. Any and all potential threats (such as this one) need to be taken seriously.
