Stanley Cup

Congratulations to the Anaheim Ducks on winning the most coveted trophy in professional sports. I was cheering for Ottawa but they got a proper whalloping from the Ducks. Giguere was great, Emery was not. The Anaheim stars played like stars and the Ottawa stars fizzled. I was really hoping The Cup would return to its ancestral home in Canada but as least it's close by here in SoCal, plus there are 19 Canadian players on the Ducks roster. :D The biggest congratulations for me go to Brian Burke. He's a magician of a GM. Too bad Vancouver let him go.

With the Stanley Cup awarded and hockey over until October, I will retire my Stanley Cup avatar and replace it with my traditional Hello Kitty! avatar. :nanana:

Yesterday was a pretty good day for some:

1.) UA wins Women's College World Series.
2.) Hoff records 500th save.
3.) Ducks win first Stanley Cup for California.

Congrats to all!

I too was rooting for the Sens.... something is wrong in the world when a team named the "Ducks" wins the SC.... don't get me wrong, they deserved it, but I guess my feelings are that only 1 of the original 6 teams should ever win it ;)

Congrats to the Ducks...... (damn, it's even weird to type it lol)

GUINNESS 06-07-2007 09:55 AM

What a series. The Ducks came out to win. No clue what happened to the Sens. I was hoping for Ottowa only because they're an Eastern Conf team, but good to see a west coast team win it, I guess. Should bring more interest out there. Until October.....

(now I'll just pray the Flyers make the right moves during off season)

Ducks had a good season and a better playoff run. They def deserved it!!

BruinMan 06-07-2007 11:12 AM

do you understand the intricacies of the game? I know that a lot of people who have never played the game feel that way about baseball, but i've never heard it about hockey.

I think we need to get him out on the ice and then he'll realize just how cool, literally and figuratively, hockey is. We could just settle for watching a game live. Every person who has not been a hockey fan becomes one after going to an NHL game.

Gresch: Did you see the segment with Clement, Hull, Ferraro and Don Cherry re: fighting in the NHL? What'd you think?

I did, Cherry is a nut-job, can't stand the guy... his schtick is old and played out.

Regarding fighting in the NHL, i think it's part of the game, i don't enjoy it, i'ld rather see a clean, hard hitting game with some scoring than a fightfest, but if it does happen i don't complain. if they make the penalties tougher it will stop naturaly, plus, with the new rule changes, a team can't afford to have a non-skilled guy aka fighter on the roster anymore....

The game is def changing with the new rules and its def favoring the speedy talented finess guys. I still think you need those enforcers to send those occasional messages! Hell, I hated Brasher before the Caps got him, but after this season he has kinda grown on me! The physical presence is a must!

I totally agree. Cherry is obsolete but has hung around because he is entertainment. The "new NHL" has bred out much of the fighting and I also think it's part of the game. I don't mind seeing a nice scrap once in a while but I do hate how non-hockey fans think it's all about fighting. :tsk: With guys like Ray Emery though, I hope that the thug mentality doesn't creep into the league. He is one tough hombre though! (Watch Emery rock Josh Gratton.)

I got so tired of Mike Emrick saying a player "knifed" a puck, shot a "drive" and how a goalie "waffleboarded" a puck away. I don't know why it bugged me so much but it did. I much prefer the play-by-play guys from "Hockey Night In Canada".

he's the Swamprats, ie Devils, regular play by play guy, he blows, the screaming, the knifing, ugh... shoot me know.

I much prefer Sam Rosen and John Davidson, and to be honest, I think the best hockey announcers that ever lived were Jim Gordon, Bill "the big whistle" chadwick and believe it or not, Marv Albert.... kenny Albert does the radio play by play for the rangers now, and we're all missing JD a lot since he took the St Louis GM job.
