Paris Hilton out of jail
|
Quote:
I wonder how many people in LA who have served time in a similar situation are freaking out right now. Or how many people currenty serving a drunk driving sentence are calling their attorneys this morning. |
Don't know why it does.......But this irritates me.
|
why do you assume that she receieved special treatment?
from what i understand, this is SOP for non-violent DUI offenders. |

For the same reasons everyone else thinks she's receiveing special treatment. She is and that's a fact.

when the jail is overcrowded and they're expending resources to keep 1 inmate safe via solitary confinement (the LA jail system sure as hell doesn't want anything happening to the celebutard while in their "care" that's for sure). It was probably easier for them to just cut her loose and change it over to home confinement, which isn't out of the norm in situations like this. |

News article is old. Written before her release
Whatever the reason it appears that most everyone agree that this whole issue is a matter of perception regarding Ms Hilton, her behaviour and how she is being treated compared to the avarage citizen. If I were in the same situation i'm positive the results would have been far different even if i had a lawyer of the same caliber she has. It's a sad charade. I'm sure "The jailhouse captain overseeing socialite Paris Hilton for the next few weeks as the article says will not be following Ms. Hilton home to make sure she answers the call for breakfast. if so, you might want to google Michelle Rodriguez, she's an actress on "Lost". She was sentenced to 60 days in LA jail for her DUI and spent 10 hours in jail. So in doing the math, Ms. Hilton actually spent a considerably longer time in the can and then received home confinement on top of it which Rodriquez didn't. So in fact, she's getting punished more than one of her "peers" and more in line with the punishment that joe blow usa citizen would receive. |
I don't need to google "Michelle Rodriguez". I don't know her from Adam. There are lots of people who get special treatment. If they do then I'm happy for them.
What i'm focusing attention on is the fact that Ms. Hilton is much more in the limelight and in a position to do a lot of good as a human being for other young people. As far as I'm concerened this is a missed opportunity for her to show what she's made of. As usual though this whole thing seems to be nothing more than a charade. A photo opp. A sad but laughable commentary on what so many call pop culture. Quote:

"She was refusing to eat a lot of the prison food"
Well being Anorexic thin and having a decent Coke habit will do that to you |

OH well, Thats hot! |
LOL...Just out.
She was cold and it was noisy. Her shrink got involved and had her released for medical reasons due to stress. Give the B**ch a blanket and earplugs. |

Rodriguez’s probation was extended until June, 2009, and her license was not suspended while she was got her DUI. She also had to perform community service, as well as get involved with MADD. Im not saying this is right or that she should have been let out early. I mean hell when it comes down to it, if I could get out of it prob would try too. Who wouldnt? Did you listen to the anouncment this morning about her being released? b/c it was hard on paris, and it changed her mentally was the reason for their decision. Jail/prison is supposed to be a deterrent, but I feel that they have turned it into a joke in paris's case. I pitty anyone with children right now. I'd hate to have kids that look up to todays celeberties like paris. |
She was "reassigned to the community-based alternative to custody electronic monitoring program."
Home confinement, in other words. |
considering pedophiles, rapists, murderers and all sorts of other, serious crime felons, are often let out very early because of overcrowded jails, put on bracelets, etc. - I see no reason why Hilton shouldn't be considered for the same treatment.
-- Now there is room in the jail for dangerous criminals.. They made their point, she served a few days which is probably the appropriate amount of time x2 for her offense and she will be home shakled for the remainder.. JUSTICE served.. now stop hating and move on. B |

File your complaint with the LA Sherriff Dept here: http://www.lasd.org/contact_us/commendation.html ****************************************** I just sent one in. Feel free to do so if what you think happened this morning was wrong. |
Indeed, it is not unusual for low level offenders like Parisite Hilton to be released early. There are people who get sentenced to X days and wind up getting a "book and release" and never serve a part of a day. It does happen regularly. Michelle Rodriguez was probably advised by her lawyer to take "straight time" in jail (pardon the pun because supposedly she is gay), meaning going and being locked up, with full expectation that she would be booked and released with full credit for serving her sentence. It is a reality that most of us do not like and would like to change but it is what it is.
The thing that kind of concerns me is that LASD cited "medical issues" in her release. That just smacks of special treatment. Releasing someone because they refuse to eat the jail food is not "medical issues". If LASD had simply said that they were overcrowded and they needed to space I think people who be less incensed. Incidentally, it should be clarified that, at least here in California, prison and jail are two very different things. Jail is where people awaiting trial and those serving under a year are housed. Usually those serving sentences in jail are misdemeanants or low level felony offenders. State prison is much worse and that's where those serving anywhere from 16 months to life without parole are housed. I've been to both on more than one occasion and I can tell you prison is a totally different ballgame. Don't ask why I was in those places. :p |

:iagree: just discussing it makes me ill..... |

I agree.. How about someone sends a letter that gripes about child molestors getting out early instead.. B - Kev, nice to see you back.. I also agree with you that she should not have been let out because of medical reasons, it isn't summer camp and does smack of favortism.. They should have let her go and just said, time served, the end.. |

why do you care? what bearing does it have on your life? if it were you would you want someone you don't even know sending in petitions regarding your incarceration? jeeez, like it was said in another post, if it were me i'ld be trying every damn trick in the book to get released... 1 hour in jail sux, 5 days must be incredible. |

Fortunately, not many child molesters are let out earlier than would be permitted under current laws. The high profile ones, of course, get our attention. As far as serious sexual predators, California has a law that can continue their incarceration even after they've served out their entire prison sentence. It's called the "Sexually Violent Predator" law and many states have them. After one of these guys serves the max he is sentenced to, the State can petition to have him sent to a locked down mental hospital until it is determined that he can be released. (Advice: Don't stop at the hospital in Atascadero, CA.) Effectively, the guy could wind up being locked up for the rest of his life. |

he cares b/c he is from LA and it happened where he lived. its his right to do that and I bet alot of people have. I guess we will have to see if there is a change next time the sherriff is up for election. |
Quote:
i never questioned whether he had or didn't have the right to question it, i specifically asked why he was questioning it... big difference. Simply because it happened in his county to someone famous? so what? |

Geeeze Earthlink.is giving me fits  So I'm late with my 2 cents. @ any rate............... let me end my part by saying......
No it wasn't my point. I started this discussion saying it was a travesty. You’re the one who said she was receiving special treatment. I just responded to your question which is only a small part of the over all issue. May I please suggest that you take another look at the thread. I’m sure in doing so you will recognize that my position regarding Ms Hilton has been well established and there should be no misunderstanding about where I’m coming from. Quote:
