Hey guys. I just picked up a new 335i convertible today. I was out driving it tonight, and on the way home, I noticed that it was squeaking when accelerating from a stop, and also after I release my foot from the brake pedal. Is this normal for new cars? Car has 958 miles. Thanks in advance.

Break in noises are common somewhat, let it go for about 2000 miles and if it is still there, and bothering you, take it to the dealer. Convertibles are usually noisier then coupes from my experience. Can you localize where the noise is coming from?

The noise is coming from the rear wheels. I thought that maybe the parking brake was not releasing properly. I went to the dealership, and was able to reproduce the noise to the technician. He said that the brakes were glazed, and did abs stopping with the car. This seemed to help the noise. He also recommended rinsing off the brakes when they cooled.

Glazed would be a result of the brakes not being broken in properly. In short, someone was riding the brakes hard causing a glaze from the pad on the rotor.

Glazed may not be the ideal term in this scenario... it could actually be just because they are so new.

I took delivery of an E36 328is and drove straight from FLA to PA... the brakes did something similar and it ended up going away once the pads and rotors bedded a bit better.

My 335i coupe had a slight brake noise only during the first 200 miles. Even that was come and go. I suggest you have that corrected with the stealer as this may no longer be common around 900+ miles.

Thanks guys for your suggestions and advice. I took the car to the stealer and they said that they heard the sound, and it was normal. They said that other people were complaining about the same thing. The brakes are a soft compound, and combined with the extreme heat causes this. It was about 106+ today. They told me to hit the brakes hard once in a while to clean dust out of the rotors. I guess that by braking a lot and breaking the brakes in better, eventhough the car has 1000 miles on it, will stop the squealing.

I thought I was losing my mind for a minute there because my reply was missing. There are 2 identical posts - one in the Lounge, the other in "Other BMW's."

Yea, sorry. I posted in both forums. The tech did some high speed stops to burn off the glaze, I could smell the pads cooking. This seemed to help a bit. But the squealing came back. He said that it was due to the extreme heat and the soft compounds of the brakes. Also said that I was not the only one complaining. I assume it will get better with continued driving? They told me to break hard once in a while. I am an aggressive driver/ braking, so this should not be a problem? Not sure if I believe the tech, but even my x5 is having brake squeals, a lot of dust and dirt in the air, along with extreme heat. About the mileage, the car is being leased, and that was the only 335i convertible not sold, new shipments were already presold.
