threats from Ontario

on another forum that i belong to, this discussion came up. what is ur all take on this?

"In a recent event that occured a few days ago that left a trucker dead, there is a new
rule passed in the province of Ontario stating that any vehicle made to "street race" can
be seized by the government and crushed to stop street racing."

The problem i have with Mr. Bryants statement is that he and others are making the decision "Just on the balance of probabilities".

If (and if is a huge word) they could establish that a car is being used for the unlawful purpose of street racing, They might have a case. But prove it they should.

I aways have problem with seizing peoples belongings based on this or that. Innocent people often get swept up in the fervor of the authorities.

Goes back to the whole notion of why can a car go over 75mph in the first place. Seems rather dumb to me, why wait for the parts to hit the car, why not go right after the after-market seller and nail them before they sell it to someone not associated with official racing...oh I know...because it is dumb. :)

BTW, who said you had to modify a car to race it? Buy a M3 or any other performance model (WRX STI, etc) all of those will easily work as a street racing vehicle.

Hmmmm. Sounds a little Hitler/Darth Vaderish to me...

(waitn' for the head to roll in and tell us how safe/wonderful street racing is...)

Already happens in the States. Just that it's actually proven as these cars are seized at the scene.

Cheers rebound!

I have never stated it is safe but I have stated that there are enviornments in which it is safER...also stated that there is really no way you can stop street racing no matter what it is going to happen...besides you are telling me you have NEVER gunned it coming off of a stoplight?

as for the crushing car thing this has been a huge topic on a few other boards I am on as it is happening in Commiefornia as well now...the fundamental problem with this mode of thinking is the factor of the cost and time invested in some of these automobiles...what will this motivate an owner to do? If he/she knows the potential consiquences of his/her actions will involve the destruciton of thier pride and joy what will they be motivated to do...My personal belief as a person that has street raced and still spends a lot of time and money on modifying some of my cars would be to run if you know no matter what your car will get crushed what is your motivation not to try and get away from the cops?

As for the reason they won't quit selling aftermarket parts for automotive enthusiasts it is a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY it would be detremental to the economy for the automotive aftermarket to be crushed because of all of the money it genereates not only for busiensses but also for the government in the forms of tax and certifacation fees.

The strangest thing about this GUINNESS is that if you read the article none of the three hondas were actually involved in street racing all were confiscated on nonmatching chassis/engine VIN numbers the other issue with this is that non US engines for japanese vehicles at least do not use the same type of numbering system as US VIN numbers hence all engines of this type will come up as stolen in the eyes of CHP...I think the next thing is to just restamp the block pretty easy to do all it takes is a few punches and a 3lb sledgehammer
