That is a pretty tough call.

Your time-frame is so large and diverse it would be impossible to choose.

Example:

How do you compare Louis Armstrong, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bing Crosby?

Answer:

You can't.

Throw in the fact that entertainer includes the likes of Bob Hope, and many others you end up with Apples and Oranges.

Oranges are much better

If we were to include the entire 20th century, it would undoubtably be Al Jolson, whose role in helping define 20th century American music is largely forgotten.

It was the Jews and the Blacks in America who, at the turn of the century, ushered in an evolutionary change in music through jazz and pop. If it weren't for folks like Jelly Roll Morton, Irving Berlin, Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Satchmo, W.C. Handy, etc., there wouldn't be a Frankie, Elvis, or Michael Jackson. Crosby repeatedly said throughout his career that Jolson was his idol.

Superman=Same thing

Correct again but both are acceptable, and JV you should know this. Think about the word "ENTERTAINER" and perhaps the person that will come to mind is one who was regarded by other entertainers as "the greatest" ;)

I was lucky enough to see Sammy Davis Jr. (along with Jerry Lewis) in what turned out to be one of his last appearances in Las Vegas. He was an awesome talent.
