While this is a very sad story, it mentions the murder rate this year in Newark NJ is 91, in Baltimore MD it its 191....but that doesn't get much press. :(

273,000 people in Newark (.00033 murdered)
631,000 people in Baltimore (.00031 murdered)

In contrast, Oakland has had 3-4 murders a day the last week. That's running above the normal 1-3 shootings a day that happen in the Oakland/Richmond East Bay area.

Local liberals blame the lack of services and guns for the nearly 100% black on black youth violence.

Truth is most of these shooters use illegal guns and make more money from drug sales and gang activities than they would with a job. Also, most live at home with a single mom collecting a welfare check.

Someone needs to take responsibility for the gang/hip-hop culture which places very little value on human life. I can't believe we allow this to continue.

Sadly, not an untrue statement.

I am not sure where you are going with the nearly 100% black on black crime and the gang/hip-hop culture. I must've missed these on the article because I can only remember the possible gang activities.

I'm sorry if you somehow found my post insulting or in some way racist.

Fact is according to Federal statistics the leading cause of death among African-American males between the ages of 15 and 34 is homicide. Of those killed between 1976 and 2004 94% were killed by black offenders.

Fast forward to my post about Oakland and Richmand...The number is closer to 99.95%. If you can't see the connection with Drugs, Gangs and the promotion of violence in the Hip-Hop culture you are part of the problem.

Until the African-American community takes responsibility for the total breakdown taking place in the black communities the problem will continue to grow.

This is no longer an inner city problem.

Crime is rife in all communities and the focus on differnet ethnic groups differs depending on where you are in the world.

So all persons, communities, goverments and continents need to take responsibility in finding an answer.

To state stats and pass the responsibilty to an ethnic group is not the answer - possibly a starting point - maybe the start of a never ending process.

A very debatable topic with no clear answers.

I do not agree at taking jabs at any ethnic groups for changing crime rates nationwide. Crime is crime. Hip Hop nor any race is not mentioned in this article. I do not feel there is a need to bring any type of race for discussion for this particular subject. Four people are dead execution style. Let's not focus on race.

It's true. Some hip hop artist promote violence. Tell me which genre doesn't. That does not make Hip Hop violent. Hip Hop is more of a life style and not just some artist. I listen to hip hop. I am not a gang member nor do I do drugs and kill people. If you want to talk about influence on violence, talk about kids who watch R rated movies or kids who play violent video games as well. How well are people really affected by these?

The African-American community isn't the only place that have issues. If you do not see this then you are part of the problem.

As it was mentioned in the article, the known fact is that if your parents do not raise you right then you won't grow up right. I do not have numbers to prove this but I think everyone can agree.
