HT Subwoofer recos?
Need subwoofer for 26x20 size room.
I am looking at Klipsch RW-12d, Klipsch RT-12d(pricey), Outlaw LFM-1EX, SVS SB12-Plus, Velodyne DLS-5000R, Any other recos? Are these big enough for the room? |
Of that list the Velodyne is the best. Klipsch subs don't perform near as good as people think and won't work in a room of that size.
I have a Mirage BPS-400 with dual 12" subs for Home Theater. It's total overkill and weighs a ton. I'm not a fan of using a sub for music so it is relegated to explosions in movies. |

I always think, if I ever replace my sub, I would probably like to find a new one that has some sort of remote control. Although, I'm not sure that the remote control units sound better.
I don't like having to control the Sub level from the receiver, it can be too complicated for a fast adjustment. And since my sub is buried behind my wall unit, it's next to impossible to adjust manually. I find more than any other speaker, the sub is the one that needs to be adjusted depending on the source. DVD vs. Music. Michael Bay film vs. Wes Anderson, etc. You get my point. B |

Just get the JL FATHOM f113! It is the KING. (but probably way over budget!)
What mix of movies to music would you say? 60/40? 90/10? Are you looking for maximum sound pressure level that rattles your guts, or just accurate, solid, quality bass? Prefer a microsub or will any size do? I run dual Def Tech 15's but I am going to be changing them out later this year to something else so I'll be following your thread. SVS rocks. Really well built and are known for playing as low as the specs say. My friend just picked up their dual-12 "Plus/2" and it is a ferocious beast, yet smooth and tame when you need it to be. Clearly the best sub I've heard in the last year for HT without totally breaking the bank. Velo's are superb and usually handle music very well, but I don't know about that exact model. Servo-controlled subs are very cool. Nice to see Outlaw on your list! Major respect for what that company is doing for price/performance. Haven't heard that LFM yet, only read good reviews of it. Might want to also check out REL and Sunfire to see if they have anything that fits your requirements and budget. I have heard REL several times and was really impressed. Sunfire is somewhat legendary I guess you could say. Have you checked out AVS Sub Forum? lots of good insight. Also, some good info here where you will find the SVS engineers once in a while. Good luck in your quest for the ultimate ear-gasm ;) |

This will be for family/great room with Music 50, Movies(DVD+blu-ray) 30 and Games(blu-ray) 20. Looking for accurate, solid, quality bass and any size will do. I have been to AVS but with 1000+ replies on threads I get lost. ;) |
I have a Earthquake subwoofer with a Marantz SR8001 and it hit the spot. Sweetly.
http://www.earthquakesound.com/subs.htm It works for me. Good luck. |
