Well, protect your kids with these bulletproof backpacks...

It is sad, but a necessary evil---with Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings, now we have to worry about protecting our kids from possible 9/11 like attacks from terrorists....Anyhow, check it out!

Saw that on the news today at lunch. What a sorry state of affairs we live in today, even in our own country. :saad:

Worst part is that the parents of those wacko kids could have made a difference... IF they had paid attention.

Statistics actually show there are much fewer homicides in schools today than there were 25 years ago. The only thing that has increased is the media's obsession with showing you every time it happens, where as 25 years ago they simply did not report it.

Here's a chart showing the number of homicides in US public schools over the past 15 years:

More children were probably struck by lightning than were killed in school.

That's nice to know Eric. Thanks.

Do you think that all the new security measures being taken at schools are just a bunch of media created hype?

Saw this the other day. Instead of solving issues, lets just apply band aids :)

...or body armor.

I think it is much like all the security at the airports. Its purpose is for show -- to make people feel more comfortable and safe, not to actually have an affect on crime. Parents watch the news and are worried, so these security measures make them feel more comfortable sending their children to school. I have no idea if they actually have an effect on crime or not.

I was thinking much the same. Metal detectors and such might help keep some weapons out of the schools. Of course they wouldn't stop an AK47-toting kid from blasting his way in!
