Giambi escaped punishment because of his charitable work.
Interesting turn of events orchestrated by Bud Selig.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2977294 The New York Yankees slugger had plenty to be happy about Thursday. Giambi escaped punishment from commissioner Bud Selig because of his charitable work and cooperation with baseball's steroids investigator. "It's over and done with. I'm thrilled with it. He did what he needed to do -- now I can go forward," Giambi said before the Yankees hosted Detroit in the opener of an important four-game series. "I can go forward and not hurt the ballclub with a suspension." Selig, speaking on the second and final day of an owners meeting in Toronto, called this an "appropriate decision." |
OK. So now this sets the prescedence. Good behavior, community work,
and all should be cool, right. Ok Barry, your turn... |

If you want to investigate and expose a crime, the best thing to do is to offer immunity to anyone who will come forward and confess. Keep in mind, the purpose here is not to punish those who are guilty, but to investigate and expose what happened.
If such deals were offered with regard to many of our government scandals, you would see how quick we would know the truth, instead of wondering for 30 years which conspiracy theory most resembles the truth. |

There were lots of comments about this coming from all angles. (See ESPN Conversation at the bottom of the page)
Me? I got a good laugh out of all the differing opinions. Quote:

Ed Norris show had the best statement about Baseball today:
It is no longer about the team, but the individual. To confirm this, answer this questions: When Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were competing for home run records, which teams were in the world series and who won? -- For his career, McGwire averaged a home run once every 10.61 at bats, the lowest at bats per home run ratio in baseball history (Babe Ruth is second at 11.76). |
