Vick suspended indefinitely

NFL.com

Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Michael Vick on Friday that he is suspended indefinitely without pay from the National Football League, effective immediately.

Following are excerpts from Commissioner Goodell’s letter to Vick:

» "Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions."

» "Your plea agreement and the plea agreements of your co-defendants also demonstrate your significant involvement in illegal gambling. Even if you personally did not place bets, as you contend, your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL Player Contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player."

» "You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league’s Personal Conduct Policy."

» "I will review the status of your suspension following the conclusion of the legal proceedings. As part of that review, I will take into account a number of factors, including the resolution of any other charges that may be brought against you, whether in Surry County, Virginia, or other jurisdictions, your conduct going forward, the specifics of the sentence imposed by Judge Hudson and any related findings he might make, and the extent to which you are truthful and cooperative with law enforcement and league staff who are investigating these matters."

» "I have advised the Falcons that, with my decision today, they are no longer prohibited from acting and are now free to assert any claims or remedies available to them under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or your NFL Player Contract."

Wow...you really hate this guy with a passion. I agree what he did was bad, but there are people in this world reponsible for mass killing of humans, and I think that is a bit worse.

You're more obsessed with bashing this guy than Rush Limbaugh is with Hillary Clinton!

You don't own a pit bull nor defend them as I do...if you did..you'd feel differently and I would request you write a wiki on it

The guy is a piece of trash. He deserves everything he gets.

but after he does his time, i think the league should let him play. the guy has talent but makes mistakes just like everyone else. he will pay for the crime he did, but he also deserves to play. i like the way he orchestrates his offense in games and his running talent. once again, i do not know him as a person but rather a good football player that only comes once in a while. agree? no?

God, I will never understand this mentality. He DISOBEYED the leagues laws and flagrantly lied to the Commissioner of the league...hell no he doesn't deserve to play again. It is responses like that that drive athletes to think they are above the law and their own businesses laws.

If you lied about committing a felony to your boss, and he fires you, should you get your job back just because you were good at it? I don't think so..people need to open their eyes to this stuff and stop making different rules for different people.

What about Pete Rose...Should he be forever penalized and left out of the hall of fame? I think it sucks that such a great talent should be passed over because he bet on baseball but the rules are the rules. There is a code of conduct, Vick is trash...you can take the thug off the street but you can't take the street out of the thug.

Dammit you beat me 2 it, I was just going to bring up Pete Rose, he got banned for a lot less, poor guy cant even get into the hall of fame, he should have been in it at least 10 years ago  . Vick should be banned from the NFL period, let him go play in the CFL or some arena league for $300 a game, then we'll see if he has the money to back illegal dogfighting

talking about 2nd chance. i would like him to play again, but not at his current pay level. he might have taken dog fighting point of view differently from the rest of the country, but i knew how he played in college at VATech, a very good athelet, a good leader. he might make mistakes along the way in his career. but to put an end to his career is kinda harsh. football is his job, just like many of us have our jobs. taking away football is taking away his job, what he loves to do and what he does best. everyone is responsible for the crime they do, but they also deserve 2nd chance. well, i believe after doing his time, he will be offered a quaterback position somewhere in the league but it will not be paid as high as he was paid before the trial. come on guys, everyone in atlanta knows exactly why they loved him the way they did. well, they might be turning their back on him, but before all of this happened they all know why georgia dome was sold out.
***nothing related to the trial is discussed in my post, its just if he will ever play again***
