IMO, the Audi MMI is a fairly poor copy of iDrive. It has too many buttons, and I simply cannot work it out w/o reading the owner's manual.

I think it is just the opposite. It is easier to work with the MMI, there is less fiddling with the knob, the buttons are nice shortcuts. Which Audi do you have that has MMI?

I sat in an A6 at an auto show a couple years back where the MMI wasn't locked out. I proceeded to try out the audio system by inserting a CD and playing with the functions. Whereas I tested the iDrive in a similar manner and did it fairly easily, the MMI was a letdown. I kept messing up trying to switch modes from radio to CD, and then finding the Tone settings wasn't much either. And then right after I ejected the CD the system shut down on me. Kaput. The screen went blank, the on/off button did nothing. Me and my friend pointed fingers as to who f-ed up the system and quickly walked away from the vehicle.............!ouch:

I dunno. It might be that my logic works better with iDrive. I did similar things in the 5-series and got it right the first try. The only iDrive system I don't like is the one on the 7-series.

 blame it on first year quirks.....It definately takes getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. My friend has a dash mounted system (S4) and it's intuitive, but some things I-Drive does better.
