Hey guy what's up with you??? You are fixated on racial issues????

Eric5273 09-04-2007 05:07 PM

What the hell does Al Sharpton have to do with this incident?

I think all of you fail to understand what Al Sharpton does. He helps with various racial situations when he is asked to. He does not just pick random issues and show up to protest uninvited. Do yourselves a favor and read a little bit about the guy. In each and every case where he helped to organize protests on various issues, his assistance was always requested by others involved. Yes, even in the Tawana Brawley case. Since he is seen as a community leader, his presence helps to attract media attention to issues that would otherwise be ignored.

As for where he stands on the issue, I'm sure you could figure it out. I'm sure he doesn't think it's a good thing that someone got their ass beat. I've never ever seen him speak out in support of any kind of violence. :slap:

Whatever  I simply bring up issues in society, seems certain individual inherently put race into it. Try reading and comprehending...not just looking for buzz words. I'm so tired of PC society where you can't discuss an issue because some one might get offended or upset. Deal with it.

Talk to me after you've been here a weekend about what this board is for. (7/3/07 sign up date) Please don't dictate to me what you think this forum is about.

Hey Eric...please tell me when you call up Duke U and see how they feel about him. :)

It is impossible to have a discussion about this incident without race becoming an issue.

All the elements lead to a discussion of how race has impacted the event.

A public school has a tree that, by all the reporting I’ve seen, was for white only.

The people responsible for the noose only received a three days suspension. (Based on the DA they should have been charged with a hate crime.)

Six black kids beat up a white kid and get charged with attempted murder.

I agree with everyone who said the six youths should be punished for their role in the beating, but I also think the people responsible for the noose should also be punished.

Keying your X is a prank…but if you caught the person I’d bet you want them to get more than a slap on the hand.

This is all about race…not sure how it can be anything but.

To all posters in this thread:

After having read the responses in this post i believe the responders should carefully examine the facts of this case. It appears at least to me that narrow conclusions are being made without out the merit of the entire facts. There is enough information regarding the Jena6 on the net to amply inform all of you before you make a comment regarding who's guilty and what the punishment should be. http://friendsofjustice.wordpress.com/jena-6/. (Click the link Jena6 summary) I suggest you please read it and formulate your responses based on the facts and not emotion

Finally: I find it rather interesting that Al Sharpton was brought up in connection with this issue. I fail to see what part he plays regarding this issue unless your implying that he should stand up for the injustice that was supposedly imposed upon the white students from a beating. If that's the case then i again implore all of you to educate yourself regarding this case. In doing so I'm sure your comments will reflect a more balanced and sensative view regarding all the individuals involved and Mr. sharpton will not be found in the equation.

And who the hell said they were "ok with the noose thing" (quoting you there). Nobody. Try to read the whole post and not place your opinion on it if possible...unless you are going to state that it is all IMO.

Wagner, I am very sorry for speaking for you. Please accept my apology. How do you feel about hanging nooses on the tree? Looks like "Strange Fruit" to me?

Remember... Money, Mississippi....

I think it's disguisting that we live in a world where there are still things like,
"White only, shade." - Is this for real? Or, is there a misintrepretation? Was the tree off limits to all students? Was it for "senior's" or the, "band practice area." I don't know, but I find it hard to believe, this sort of black/white segregation still exists in the US. - and the noose's are inexcusable, regardless of reason. That's not PC, it's just common disrespectful and shows any lack of decency.

-- Now, if said white kid, who got his ass beat, got his ass beat because he hung a noose on a tree, or because he was walking around dropping "N" bombs, then said white kid deserved a good old fashioned ass kicking.

Of course not, the same way I feel about a person getting jumped by 6 people.

Good article accept more of the media same:

Here is what the Principal of the school said, according to CNN:
The school's principal recommended expulsion for those behind the nooses, according to local newspaper in nearby Alexandria. Instead, The Town Talk reported, a school district committee overruled the recommendation...

Here is it according to Friends of Justice:
After this hate crime was dismissed as a harmless prank by the school administration, black students protested.....

Obviously school admins did try to take harder action and were overruled.

They discuss the "all white jury" being an issue, well only 12% of the town is black so only, at best, two people could have been black on the jury. And since when did skin color mean a jury of peers? That said, Muhammed Ali and Tiger Woods are one in the same as far as life experience...as are Peyton Manning and Billy Bob Thorton.

So either way you want to read it you could bend the issue that way. That is why I attempted to stick to: bunch of guys jump another guy...which turned into I must be a racist for bringing it up...even though I would have brought it up had it been 6 white guys on a white guy...in that case I would have said what does the ACLU think of it......apparently I attempted to have this discussion at a level a majority of responders understood. I mentioned Al Sharpton as a jest at the previous Duke U case...apparently shot WAY to high on the bar.
