But when you move to a new position, it feels hard again for the first minute or two. Since I am a somewhat restless sleeper and tend to move around a lot, it isn't very good for me.

An alternative to the memory foam matresses is to get a latex matress, which is what I did. The latex matresses are much softer and feel like a cross between a regular matress and the momory foam. They are much softer, yet they still give the support that the memory foam does.

Sealy makes a line of latex matresses called "Reflexion"

You're right that the latex is a cross between memory foam and a conventional mattress. My Select Comfort bed came with both inserts memory foam and latex. The latex is also hypo allergenic and holds up better. With that said I preferred the memory foam for support.

I've had a Tempur for 5 years and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I've seen no sign of deterioration and there is a 20 year warranty (for what it's worth).

There is no one mattress that is best for everyone. Those of you that say this mattress is great and that mattress is crap are only speaking about how the mattress suites YOUR body and sleep habits.

Asking on an Internet forum about what mattress is good for you is like asking someone else whether a pair of shoes fits you or not.

We have a tempur-pedic and love it. I haven't noticed it deteriorate, but just had it less than two years. Nor have I noticed it getting hot. We had heard about the heat issue and asked about this while looking. The sales guy said the newer designs have channels in them that let them breathe and 'eliminate' the heating up of the older models.

Only thing I've noticed 'bad' about it, is that if I get up for a minute or less and get back in, there will be a dipping feelilng between where I was before on the bed and my new position. Essentially, it takes a while for the foam to go back to normal after your body softened it, so when you get up and back down, the imprint of where you previously were is still there. It only last for a minute or so, and I don't notice it anymore, but I did notice it early on.
