I went from PC to Mac. I bought a 12inch Powerbook (subsequently upgraded with a gig memory and I had to buy an external harddrive to hold all my music files).

The operating system is amazing - it is much better and much more well integrated than the PC laptops I have had.

I have always had problems installing new software or new hardware on any PC I have had - there is always some problem. But on the Mac, everything is totally integrated. Everything works perfectly out of the box.

BUT!!! BIG BUT!!.... I am getting rid of my Mac - however much I love it, I mustget rid of it and get a PC.

Unfortunately, as a CPA, all of my business software is only available for PC. Don't let anyone tell you that Virtual PC will run everything. It may, but it is soooooo slow - basically worthless. In order to properly work from home and out of the office in meetings, I need a PC for all my tax and accounting software.

I use my Mac for purely entertainment / word processing stuff. It has my photos, browser and email, all my 20+gigs of music on itunes, and my writings. But for business and making sure that no matter what you buy it will run - then you have to go PC.

I have never had a problem with files going from PC to Mac and back.

If Mac was able to run every program - it would be a no-brainer. It is smoother and the physical package is put together so slick and compact.

And chatting with iChat is amazing. Much better than any other IM program I have ever seen. and the quality of the video chatting is amazing.

Mac is the way to go, I have a 17" power book and I love it, everything is easier and more reliable... I have always used a mac (SGI at work), My girlfriend use a pc laptop for work, and she always has problems, she use Mac at home.

At least wait until Apple starts putting the Intel processors in there.

A Pentium 4 6XX-Series-powered Mac would rock. Not to mention a Pentium D-powered one (dual cores!).

My question is....once MAC goes to Intel, can we use OS X on our PCs? :D

You can right now if you jump on the usenet groups. ;) Rosetta running on a Pentium box running a developer version of OS X. But you didn't hear that from me

I don't like Mac hardware, but if I could use their Unix-based OS on my PC, I just might try that. I am sure the open source community will make such a thing a reality within months of Apple starting to use Intel chips in their machines.

Hey Juan. I'll be switching over also soon. I've never used one for an extended period of time. Seems like you have a wide selection ;) , what are your thoughts on a Powerbook vs. an iMac G5?

They are both great machines, and you can't go wrong with either one of them. The big question is how important is portability for you? If it is not, then I'd go for the iMac. It has a faster processor and better graphics capabilities. This machine rocks, and it is simply beautiful. The iMac is also a lot less expensive. If, however, portability is important to you, then, obviouly go for the PB.

I have worked all my life with PCs and then suddenly one dreadful day my boss asked me to switch to Macs. I got hold of David Pogue's 'Switching to the Mac-The missing manual' and it was a piece of cake. Nice book. atleast for the beginners to get familiar with few technical concepts.
