Let me correct you David, it's not 22,300 feet its MILES!
Clarke Belt
Named after its founder Arthur C. Clarke, the Clarke Belt is an orbit used by satellites at a height of 22,250 miles, in which satellites make an orbit in 24 hours, yet remain in a fixed position relative to the Earth´s surface.
Let me correct myself, they both sit on relatively same distance but I "believe" have different strenghts transmitters. If I find the link, I will share
:)

The real rip off is CABLEVISION in NYC, I pay $175 monthly for family package, 3 rented boxes, plus high speed internet.
Wish I could switch to DISH or Directv.

that's not true, all sat's sit in a geosynchronous orbit at the same distance form the earth at 26,200 miles.

not exactly 26,200 miles read my #21 post

You're confusing geostationary and geosynchronous. Directv uses geosynchronous. Geostationary sats are over the equator.

Thanks for the typo point out! I meant miles...obviously.

Having read everything ever published by A.C. Clarke, I am aware
that that orbiting veil was named after the greatest sci-fi/futurist
writer.

And, I have read the mkting hype for both DISH and Direct; as I wrote
about 2 pages ago, I have no fookin dog in this fight: I have DISH here,
as it was offered by the local stlr, along with Direct, 6 years ago when
we loaded up the system. I have ComCrap in FLA. I'd actually do cable
if we had it here at 5,000 feet, (not miles ;) ), elevation.

The 11 yr old link is like reading an 11 year old article that is ex post
facto...and Direct may be "better" or technically or gizmo superior for
the moment, but I could not care less. If and when I get HD here, I
will pick the co. that has the stuff I wanna see, the "tech" is besides
the point. I can assure you that any "less distance" or "closer" in terms
of who's sats are mas proximo, is of zippo effect, all technology being
similar.

My cock is under my arm and I'm going home, as M. Vick said.

If it weren't for Verizon's desire for money and hatred for our weather, IE. selling ME, NH and VT to substandard and unprepared Fairpoint we would be getting FiOS, and my rants on Time Waster Cable are all around. This DirecTV may finally do something about at least half of our "communications" bill for the month ... If only their internet was decent. I wonder if they will have T1 anymore...

Fairpoint Communications. :gun:
The Salvation of Time Warner Cable of Maine's reputation because there is someone with WORSE service than them. :tsk: :tsk: :tsk:

Verizon is preparing the GPON network. Verizon is moving from megabits to gigabits. Verizon will begin to use GPON technology in all FiOS deployments, which will increase speeds downstream by four times and upstream by eight times.

Is there a difference in taxes for FIOS (which is telephone) vs cable vs satellite..? I thought I read at one time that even with equivalent service prices, the gov't taxes FIOS higher than cable, and cable higher than satellite.. This is probably a bit dated though..

I'd give anything to dump Cablevision, but I dont want to have to rent boxes for every tv set, especially the kid's who only gets basic cable.

options?
