Rental Car Damage + Expired Insurance

I need some help/advice....this happened to my girlfriend.

She had a rental car from Dollar Car Rental. Her car was parked at work when this idiot reversed incorrectly and pushed another parked car into her rental car.

Now, she got down all his information and gave his insurance number to Dollar. She got a call back today saying his insurance has been expired and therefore she will have to pay for all the damages. What can be done about this? The damage to her rental car is minor (maybe $200 repair or less) but why does she need to pay for this? Can I report this guy? At this point I'm beyond furious and will take it whatever it takes to make this guy suffer, trying hard to resist the urge to go down and give him a face visit.

I would file a police report which will result in a ticket for him driving without insurance. As for the damages...You can always take him to small claims court.

I actually had a guy hit my rental car's mirror, I filed a claim with my insurance company (AAA) most comprehensive insurance transfers into all vehicles, at least my insurance does. In fact don't they check that? File a police report, file an insurance claim and while you will pay you ded. you shouldn't be at fault aka no raised rates
