The speed of the plane is an interesting question . The water surface is being pounded by the beginnings of a shock wave, which is why it 's turning white and why the water vapor around the airplane forms a conical shape. These mean he was likely close to Mach 1.

Unless that was slowed down for playback, that's not mach 1. Very cool still.

Btw, I highly doubt they'd go that fast that low. I'm pretty sure there's a floor beyond which they can't/willnot go that fast.

I heard they're running 400-450 when doing their low passes. Amazing downforce on the water, though... Thanks for posting!

Wild stuff. Other wild stuff, I live near an airfield and the other day saw 4 Warthogs flying over....crazy...felt like I was in Afghanistan :)

That's close, but actually its just the air being compressed forward of/at the leading edge of the wing and intake. You see the "white" because as the air is compessed it in effect "squeezes" the water out of the air. While this isn't exactly accurate it close enough in laymans terms to get the idea.

The wake on the water is simply the air from wing/fuselage.
