It is more used for generating dynamic web pages.

cpatzer, no Python is compiled but you can write script to it. It take about 1/8th of the time to write an app in Python as it does in Java. Pretty awesome. You should check it out. I also write in JSP, ASP, PHP, etc...

How do you like Python over PHP?

Wagner 11-21-2007 06:32 PM

Two different types of coding. If you are familiar with ASP, JSP....PHP is very similar and VERY VERY advanced. You can script almost anything with it in no time at all. The object-orientation of PHP is great as well. It connects seamlessly with MySQL for instance and you can find free PHPBB and free PHPMyAdmin which is great.

Python on the other hand...far stronger. If you research it you'll find it competes perfectly with Java and isn't nearly as hard/cumbersome to write. It follows most of the practices of C but includes OO architecture. Very cool. Check out sites like Plone.org which is a CMS that utilizes Python as the back end.

Thanks, I will. I am a pretty hard core PHP/MySQL dev that is now taking a position programming .NET. I just find the Windows environment more challenging.

I do LOVE PHP however. So simple and yet powerful. The best of both worlds!

Yeah I started playing with .NET before I left my previous job.
