It was really kind of a dumb idea if you think about it, but it was still fun to drive. The 4+3 was a regular 4spd manual tranny but it also had an overdrive in 2nd, 3rd, & 4th gears. You didn't need to use the overdrive to go through the gears, but if you did, it was like driving a semi-automatic 7 spd. You'd start in 1st as usual, shift to second as usual (with clutch), press the button on top of the shifter for 2nd OD (no clutch for button shifts), shift to 3rd while pressing the button to get to regular 3rd (with clutch), then 3rd OD with just the button, then 4th w/button & clutch, and finally 4th OD... Weird but interesting. I think they only used that tranny for a couple of years.

2001 X5 4.4i was my first true love. She was neck jerking quick off the line and going from a Jeep to the X was like driving for the first time.

I have yet to get "The car". I'm thinking about it though. I've never had a sports car and I'm thinking I should do it before it's viewed as a midlife crisis

???Hmmmmmm 6 series?????

1998 Honda Prelude Type SH- the first and only car so far that I've bought on my own. Brings a smile driving it, the X never could.

heh?.. Why the Z over the 996 and M3?

The Z had incredible balance and along with my relatively cheap mods (less then $5,000 got me: headers, straight pipes, ECU upgrade, Plenum, intake, pulleys and dynos of 260+ to the ground) the quickest car I've owned. I would have actually rated the M3 3rd as fun to drive behind the Z and 996 (if just comparing the M, 996 and Z). The M3 was great but was obvious it was a derivative of a 'coupe'. The 996 was a lot of fun but parts were sooooo expensive. The Nissan was the best compliment (IMO) of handling, power and relatively low cost parts. Again all my opinion and I never tracked the cars just sprinted them through the back roads of Maryland.

I really liked the E39. That's when my BMW love affair started.

B, hows the truck?

Wagner,

I had a 1993 Nissan 300Z, white, coupe, t-top.. It was also one of my favorite cars. Easy to drive, fun, so well balanced.. Then I was driving once from Columbus to Toledo and it started snowing. I eased on the gas coming off one of those onramps that puts you in the fast lane of another highway.
The car spun 3-4 times over 4 lanes on traffic and wound up in a ditch (unharmed and undamaged) on the other side of the highway. I sold the car soon after.

T,
The rig is doing great. Talk about a work horse. We just put a head unit, sat unit, nav unit, BT, double din radio in. The interface sucks, it's a kenwood. But it was priced right.

My favorite car? My first--it was a used 1974 Mustang II hatchback. Not very fast, not a racer, and not luxury. But to me it represented a new freedom and independence. I took my buddies around. I customized the stereo. I bought floor mats. I spent hours waxing it. And, I took girls out on dates. How cool was that to a 16 year old boy?
