Black day in Omaha due to senseless violence
Some kid walked into a department store and shot 8 people and then himself. Why? Because he was fired from McDonalds. The murder weapon was a SKS he took from his step-father. Why the f*ck does ANYONE have a SKS? The kid was not living at his step-fathers house at the time, but was aware the gun was there and knew how to get it. More senseless violence from an unbalanced teen with access to an assault rifle. My prayers go out to the families that are attempting to deal with this tragic and uneccesary loss.

The problem here hasn't anything to do with an inanimate object like an SKS, or why somebody has one to begin with (ever herd of firearms hobbies?).
The problem begins and ends with the kid himself, don't bring gun control into it!, in reality it has nothing to do with reducing crime and no proof that it works!. If you don't want your kids going on rampages, pay attention to how they are growing up!, teach them to respect firearms too!, everyone I know who has been brought up to respect firearms and other people would never even dream of doing something like this! I own a licensed, legal single shot BREN gun and AK47, I allow friends to use them under my supervision and neither they nor I endevour to go on rampages killing people! This is a tragic event, no doubt, and my prayers also go out to the families involved!, but don't be so quick to attack guns because of the actions of a HUMAN BEING!. BTW: its every free man's right to own an Rifle, SKS, AR15, AK47, Garand, whatever! Its what beat the Red Coats to begin with! |

Also, this "kid" was 19 so his ability to access a weapon is no big shock. And though he apparently popped off 40 rounds he could have unload just as many and more from a standard 9mm (a la VTech shooting). So the weapons of choice is not the problem, a society that 1) glorifies and examines to death tragedy and 2)children growing up with a constant need of attention are the problems IMO. As was said, this was a PARENTING problem from the word 'go', not a issue of weapon of choice. Some fact: - individuals can be nuts - individuals can be deadly - you can't protect yourself from every nut job - bad things do happen - no society, in history, has not had unexplainable violence - we are all just a few pieces of DNA away from being a monkey |
Good to see apathy is alive and well among gen-xers.

Apathy, How so, simply because posters don't believe 'guns' are the problem..and that parents are. Seems like a 'we dropped the ball' on the generation before us. |
Apathy, as in instead of, "Wow, that is an awful tragedy" or "what a senseless act", I have been getting flamed for implying that this kid should not have access to a rifle that has no purpose other than to kill people. You are missing the point entirely. There are nine families that are missing loved ones tonight. Fathers that did not come home. Children that will never see their mother again.

Quote...He wanted to go out with a bang. He told others he was going to be famous.
Sad thing is his face and story is plastered all over the news, so in a way he got what he wanted and I fear others will do the same. Too bad our sensationalist media makes a circus out of every tragedy. Best thing to do would have been to restrict media outlets from posting his photo and focus on the people killed with very little said about the killer other than the fact that he was disturbed. |

Ahhhh I thought it was in regard to the posters, not the action. |
There is not doubt that guns do not kill people on their own. This is a troubled kid who did not have strong parental guidance. I guess he did get one thing from his mom and stepdad...the sks.
