Player for BR/HD and regular DVD
Only one problem....it's made by Samsung who collectively makes the worst HD and BR players in the world IMO.
http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/11038 But this unit plays BR, HD-DVD and DVD for $800.00 |
I agree, I wouldn't buy anything Samsung makes, no matter how cool it may be. It'll break eventually.

Worst quality and reliability. |
HD DVD is out, BR is in.

Well, I guess all the Samsung bashers are speaking from experiences with their Samsung products. I have had at least four (VCR, VCR+DVD, LCD TV, DVD Recorder) Samsung products that worked for years WITHOUT a single problem. I am no longer using the first 3 as I have "upgraded" but they all still work.
Samsung products are cheaper than most so I would not expect them to be the best performers but, according the much-maligned Consumer Reports, Samsung products are often at the top of their ratings. To me, that means that they are not a bad deal for the average consumer but, if you want the best, you can pay (a lot) more for a Sony or Panasonic and you will probably end with a better product. |

Well...so far, only two companies make Blue Ray/HD combo players (Samsung and LG). It doesn't make much of a difference which player you chose since they're both based off of the Broadcom chipset. At the moment, there's not much of a choice if you want a combo player.

IF you read any industry evaluations, you would have found out the "combo" unit only supports 720 and NOT full 1080i/p pictures - definitely something to stay away from, no matter who made it
