You don't get it do you Eric?

This was a kind request from wag.

"Eric, please don't ruin this thread. If I had the authority I would have posted an locked it. It was a tribute for a great man on his birthday. Nothing more, nothing less. If you'd like to lecture on the governments roll, yet again, with this issue I humbly request you start your own thread."

Show some class bro. Gracefully bow out, Let it rest

Very good post/paste, BigR...King's speech was, imo, one of the
great public speeches of my memory. Imus used to play it about
3 times a show on MLK Day. It still gives me shivers, and hope.

I am with StatDoc on the coattail riding idiots of today...

MLK was human, like any/all of us, but he never, ever gave up.
A most remarkable man and "his" speech could be for any oppressed
in the world, of any color and will stand the test of time as a classic.

Sadly, now alot of black "leaders" are protesting the sculptor selected for his statue because he is chinese - efforts were made to select a wide variety of contributors for the creation of the national memmorial for Dr King - the people calling for a black sculptor completely miss Dr King's message and desire - now who is the racist?

Jesse Jackson once had the opportunity to push forward Dr King's dreams, but (IMHO) squandered it for self grandiosity, fraud (operation push), and adultery - Al Sharpton is no more than another "Rev Ike", but at least Rev Ike was upfront about what he was about - I also blame the democrats and the news media for trying to keep AMERICANS polarized, something Dr King clearly did not want

Not twisting your arm X5Flyboy but Black "leaders"..........
Who are they leading???

The blind leading the blind cannot be expected
to find their way or the result to be different
when both are headed to the bottom of the pit.

... And who selects these so called Black "leaders?" The media does, of course. I don't ever recall a vote or a poll being taken on this issue?

I still say that the reasons why many of you dislike the current black leaders are things they actually have in common with Dr. King.

For example, listen to this speech (below) by Dr. King and tell me if you still think he was "brave and enlightened". If I posted the text of this speech without this was a speech by Dr. King and asked for your opinions, words like "traitor" and "anti-American" would probably be used to describe the writer.

The mainstream media insists on simplifying Dr. King into a single speech as if he was seen as a great hero in his time, instead of a rather hated individual who was seen as a troublemaker by mainstream America.

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/spee...eaksilence.htm

Here are some short segments (the complete text is in the link above):

"I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today -- my own government."

"So they go, primarily women and children and the aged. They watch as we poison their water, as we kill a million acres of their crops. They must weep as the bulldozers roar through their areas preparing to destroy the precious trees. They wander into the hospitals with at least twenty casualties from American firepower for one Vietcong-inflicted injury. So far we may have killed a million of them, mostly children."

"What do they think as we test out our latest weapons on them, just as the Germans tested out new medicine and new tortures in the concentration camps of Europe?"

Personally, I think he was perhaps the most enlightened individual of the 20th century. And it is speeches like this that affirm that opinion. The "I have a dream" speech, while very inspiring, represents only a very small part of what Dr. King stood for.

Quicksilver 01-21-2008 02:57 PM

Dumb statement. No one "dislikes the current so called black leaders". Nobody in their right mind considers any of them leaders. PERIOD!!!!! :nanana:

End of subject.
