What 2 do in Houston??

Guys, I'm in Houston basically for the next 2 weeks on business, I'll be heading home on weekends but Monday-Thursday, I'm basically here watching TV in my hotel room. Is there a happening place during the weekdays downtown?
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Where are you staying? Galveston is a bit far for an evening trip and not that great in my opinion.

Just see what's the night life's like, go to places where I can enjoy the "scenery".

The scenery is not downtown Houston. As you have probably noticed, it's nice and dirty. You might need to go towards the Galleria or even the Sugarland area. Do you have some wheels to drive?.....Phil

I was in Houston a few years ago, and I thought Galveston was a comparatively nice seaside place that has a certain charm...maybe it changed? Isn't it only a 1/2 hr drive?

Galveston is not too far away. Depending on the time of day, 1\2 hour to 45 minutes is do-able....Phil

well, i can tell you that you won't be having trouble finding mexican food. I was in Houston visiting HPaq last august and ate mexican 3 nights in a row... it was damn good.

Tell me what types of activities you would like to do. I'm not the downtown person, but I can make a couple of phone calls and get the goods for you. You really need to head south and check out the Galleria area....plenty of shops, bars and food. It's not to far from you....should be around 10 miles or less....Phil

tijanaw 02-13-2008 12:19 AM

Cool, I will def check it out. Thanks for the offer 2 make phone calls, I REALLY appreciate it but bars, restaurants and shops will be just fine. I'm very laid back.

Galveston is about 45 min from downtown in the middle of the day. I used to live in the Clear Lake area and trust me.... weekdays after 5:00........... It's prob 1.5-2 hours. Like others mentioned... the Galleria area is nice. There are some really nice bars and dining in downtown as well as mid-town. Ibiza is a great little place on the edge of downtown. As a bit of a spanish flare to the food and great spanish wine selection. Vic & Anthony's is downtown if you want a good steak.

Galleria area is a good rec.

(Don't forget the Men's Club of Houston on Sage road near the Galleria ;) )

GUINNESS 02-13-2008 11:01 AM

I went to Houston once, so I can't help you :) I will say that when I was there, I stayed to one street... my hotel and the SAP training facility was on it, along with "The Fox and Hound" pub. Tuesday night was $2.50 anything on draft, and yes, it included Guinness. I was a happy camper that night... and I got to watch a Flyers game too.

Ok, honestly....
