Hockey fans
I know there are some hockey fans here so I'll post the question:
Should Chris Pronger be suspended and for how long, for his alleged stomp with his skate on Ryan Kesler? WTF am I talking about??? (You East Coast hockey fans forget about the Western teams. ;) ) During the Anaheim-Vancouver game on Wednesday night in Anaheim, Pronger and Kesler collided with Kesler going down. It appears that Pronger's feet were tangled in Kesler's legs and then it appears as though Pronger stomps down on Kesler's leg. (I wrote that as objectively as I could. The video illustrates it better, of course.) I think that it was an intention stomp. Whether Pronger intended to cause injury is irrelevant. It speaks to the lack of respect for other players and the game. Also, Pronger is a repeat offender. As of right now, the NHL has declined to discipline Pronger but is undertaking another review based on new video. Compare zero punishment with the 30 games Chris Simon got for stomping on Jaarko Ruutu's foot earlier this season. Add to that, another Canuck was out for 40 some odd games for a cut on his calf and Cory Perry is currently out with the same type of injury, plus Richard Zhednik had his throat slashed. All of those cases were accidents but it highlights the point that skates can cause serious injury. Pronger is a dirty player and should not escape discipline because he is a marquee player and he wears the "C" for The Ducks. Thoughts? http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=232002&hubname=nhl |
There's teams out west?? :dunno:

PNG/K, imo that action was slightly cheap but, chump change... no injury, really no harm and barely a foul. I realize the game has "come back" to more free skakting, less thuggery and a much better game from just a few years ago, which most any fan is glad about. But, that lil' move shouldn't even be under question... And, it wouldn't be "under review, etc.", a decade ago when the NetVids and handwringers and lets take another look at the tape by the suits stuff did not exist. I am all for the current game; not, the previous goon game. But, it was no biggie, imo. No Xpert as this coming from a 60 1/2 yr old that hasn't skated organized since 1974 in a no check league, , but I love the game. Hope I didn't impinge on any WestCoastSensitivty...;) x00x mD |
UPDATE: Pronger got 8 games. Seems fair and after seeing some much better footage tonight on "Hockey Night In Canada", there's no question he did it intentionally.
8th suspension for Mr. Pronger. :tsk: http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=...ticleid=357028 |
There was nothing alleged about it, he stomped on the guy's leg twice! He could have sliced the guys achilles or calf muscle!
He's lucky he didn't get "the simon treatment", 8 games is nothing compared to the 30 some odd games that Simon received for his stomping incident. |
If that was a Philadelphia Flyer, he would have been done for the season and probably felt the effects into next season as well. Total bs, 8 games my ass.

I feel bad for Chris Simon even though he has a bad record himself. He had just gotten 25 games for whacking that NYR player with his stick so the league had to go higher. He's had a record setting 8 suspensions. Guess now he is in a tie with Pronger as this is Pronger's 8th. Given his record I think 8 games was a gift.

OK, new rule. I propose that suspension length should be based on WHO you're actually stomping/cross-checking. If the victim is a "nice" guy, should be a very long suspension. On the other hand, if the guy on the receiving end is an @$$hole himself, no suspension!;) So when Chris Simon decked Ryan Hollweg with his stick, should have been zero games suspension, since Hollweg is a dick also.
Also, all slashes and spearing against Sean Avery and Todd Bertuzzi should be rewarded with incentive clauses. Likewise, any skate stomping against a super nice guy (say Teemu Selanne): 2 year suspension. |

Anyway, on the suspension... it's simple - they screwed it up. Simon got how many games, for stepping on a boot of a player. Pronger stepped on the guy's unprotected leg/sock, twice, and got how many games? Completely unjust. |
