I think someone over there is doing a better job of breaking the tires loose...

The road has decent visibility, a wide margin for error, little traffic, and smooth pavement.

Drifting = 4 wheel slide while accelerating forward (or mildly sideways), right? I know it's not that fancy, but I accomplished this with winter tires, which don't really have as much grip.

I would consider drifting a controlled 4 wheel slide, not something you are just recovering from due to lack of grip and going to fast through a corner, a drift is intentional

Drifting...what a waste of time and tires. Expecially in an SUV.

The only thing more pointless is driving in tire screeching circles around a courtyard.

The only drifting going on was my attention.

Have you ever drifted? It's a lot of fun and tires are just a cost

No, I haven't. I am pretty open minded, but I can tell you that there is nothing about drifting that appeals to me. Not even in the slightest bit. Nor does driving around in circles attempting to drift.
