New law, no smoking in car with kids
Greetings folks,
Thought this would be a good topic for discussion. I was driving today and saw a digital type road sign that read: New Law: Smoking in car with minor is illegal.. So what do you think? Just or unjust? I quit smoking about 2.5 years ago, so I am unsure. But it seems to me, if people smoke around their kids, in the house, at the table, etc. What difference does it make if they do it in the car? Wouldn't it make more sense to just make smoking in front of minors illegal EVERYWHERE, if they are going to try to enact a law like that? I don't quite understand just doing it in cars.. Either way, I thought it would be fun to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter.. Forgot to mention.. Of course I'm talking about a California law.. Where else would they enact something so silly. (Not to say that people should smoke near kids, but why just make it illegal in a car. Why not make smoking near minors illegal EVERYWHERE if your going to do it? |
To put it in perspective how would you like it if someone FARTED in the car. With the windows rolled up no less?
Farting at the dinner table isn't very appealing either. |
Why specify when in a car? Two words: Hot Box.
Come on B-Line. I know you know what I'm talking about. :smokin: |

Completely unjust. What is next you can't have a beer at your house in front of a minor?
Again...more liberal fascism. They will not be happy till they control every aspect of your existence for their pseudo-utopian ideals. HUGE RANT: We have a thread posted yesterday discussing parents trying to figure out which gang their 4 year old should join, I think we have bigger troubles then smoking in a car. So if this was a law, then speeding with a minor in the vehicle should make the minor being there a secondary offense (you endangered a child, right?) How about you can't have kids at a gas station, there are numerous signs warning of toxic fumes? How about cell phones, jury goes in and out on them more then the "yolk of the egg is good for you" line. While we're up, lets ban anything hot..or too cold..that could effect children too. We should also get rid of any house that uses natural gas for a heating or cooking source since carbon monoxide is dangerous and could effect kids. Knives, ie utensils, are also illegal..they have sharp edges that could injure a minor and since you could use plastic ones...metal is not necessary. |

While I understand the Nanny Mentality of this law and the argument that this kid will be exposed at home I do see some benefit. Cars are compact areas which expose a child to high concentrations. While imperfect I agree it is in the best interest of the child. What we now know about the dangers of smoking and that impact on children plays a bit role in my opinion here.
I hate big government and that what this law accounts to; however, I'm willing to overlook this instance knowing they meddle all the time anyway. |
