Fire Pits
Hello All,
As some of you know I moved into my new condo on March 1st, I picked the place because it has a 500sq ft patio outside the front room  Now I want to get a fire pit and do a nice couch surrounding it (I have it all planned out) BUT The HOA said I could have a fire pit (after a long drawn out fight with them) under the stipulation it produced no excess smoke. Now I'm wondering how much smoke does a charcoal fire pit give out? I found a perfect non-propane fire pit (could I put something that does not smoke in it?) I found some propane pits but their 3x the price (800+ dollars for a nice one) Any help? |
I'd have to say that a charcoal burning fire pit is going to smoke up pretty good. You will also get the smell too and with 500 square feet you might get a little smoke inhalation.
Go with propane. It's clean burning and you will have no issues with your HOA bitching at you about smoke or smell. There would also be no cleanup for you either whereas charcoal will require you to maintain your fire pit. Depending on what you get, you can fancy it up to alter the glow. I know of people who have put large chunks of broken tempered glass to sparkle up the flames. |
Go with a gel based fire pit, there is no smoke.

Gas fed?

more importantly, who's bringing the marshmallows?

Must suck when someone can tell you that your fire can't make smoke. I put tons of particulates in the air when my fires smoke and boy does it look cool!!! I only burn wood for heat, I cook outside with only cherry wood and my fire pit by the lake smokes like crazy and it's a beautiful sight from out on the lake.
MAN-UP CITY BOY AND BUILD A REAL FIRE!!! :nanana: |

Boi - a neighbor of mine in Boston has a propane fire pit on their top floor roof deck. Similar sitiation - HOA were not too happy about the possibility of a pile of burning logs on the roof but allowed the propane firepit. It is awesome, gives out great heat, no hassle, clean etc. - convenience is definitely worth it for city living. Spend a little more money and they look great too. .....or you could move to the boonies ;) |

Off topic, but since you mentioned Miller...
Did anyone catch SNL news last week? Seth Myers was doing a story on someone stealing $40,000 worth of Miller beer--he said, "$40,000 of Miller? Did they steal ALL of it??!" I love that joke. |

If they were all dead center, I'd have another job right now ;) Let's put it this way..(and I'm by no means an excellent shot) but 100+ rnds with 7-10 misses on head shots and multiple 9, 10 rings and 15 hits on the head :) I'll go with that.... psss...sold my X5 a long time back....the Ford Expedition XL does a great job supplying my redneck fetish..... :) hahaha  |

I have one by my pool and have whiney neighbors too. I have found that burning hardwoods (dead cherrywood) or something like that produces a good fire without too much smoke.
WTF is a gel based firepit  sounds unhealthy |
