She said "Yes"
Hey gang,
Have some great news to share. Got engaged this past weekend. She was completely taken by surprise even though she helped me pick the setting. We went to Vegas to meet my bro who flew in from Miami. - I got us a suite at Mandalay. When we went to enter the suite, my now fiancee said, "Seth, the room is dirty, they must not have cleaned it." I laughed and said "get in the room!" I had rose petals laid all over the floor, 2 dozen long stems, bottle of Don, chocolate covered strawberries, etc. etc. - I then told her that my brother must have set this up for us and she should read the card on the table. She walked over and read the card out loud which said, "JODI, TURN AROUND" I of course was on my knee with some bling, bling in my hand. I asked her to marry me and she said "Yes!" (btw, for all you soon to be hitched guys out there, beware, diamonds ain't cheap, lol !) **but worth every penny** No date set yet, we're just enjoying being engaged for right now. Thanks for letting me share this with you gang. It feels great !! Best, Seth |
Congratulations!

Congrats B. Great proposal - something neither of you (at least her) will soon forget. You are right about the high price of the stone, but the cost has been well worth the return in my case. Enjoy all that lies ahead!

SUCKER!!! :p
Congratulations, Seth! That was a well planned proposal. I can appreciate the whole thing because I too am engaged. (Engaged or awaiting execution?) I feel you on the whole diamond thing. It's mucho money for something so small. It's also a bit scary because it's like the watch buying thing because there are lots of crooked cats out there selling stones and everyone seems to know "a guy who can hook you up". Anyway, my fianceé knew it was coming as well since we picked the diamond and designed the ring together. As I was getting ready to pay for it I commented out loud that for that money I could buy so many car mods and began listing them off. She was a sport about it. I am very happy with the finished ring and the pride in ownership has made the sting of the price much less painful. |
Congrats Seth - way to go! And good thing you got the 4.8 first! :-)
May the three of you (and perhaps maybe a few more?) live happily ever after... |
WOW,
Thanks gang.. I really appreciate the best wishes. I am really looking forward to our future together. We've been together four years. Stuck with me for a move from Miami to Los Angeles, dealt with me during my two years of grad school. And despite all my flaws, she loves me to pieces. ** a funny note to add. When we got their friday night, we arrived a day early. Weren't supposed to get there till saturday. So we stayed with my bro in his room at Mandalay. Saturday, we go down to the topless pool and 1/2 naked women are everywhere. Around 2:30, I get the call from the front desk that the room is ready with flowers and champagne and stuff. I drag Jodi away from the pool. We pack our bags and head over to the suite, we get engaged. - We go back to the pool shortly after to celebrate with my brother. Needless to say, he's already told about the 1/2 the pool. So when we get back, all these naked women are running over to congradulate us and check out the ring. There were boobs flying everywhere... lol.. Not Jodi's though, she didn't want to go topless in front of my bro. -- Kevin, I feel you man. The ring thing was a bitch. It took months and after a while they all start to look the same. I closed the deal with a Princess, GIA cert, 2.6karat, F, VS2. 4 Baguettes on each side, platinum. Total karat weight of over 3.5. -- http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...S/DSCN5901.jpg It was nerve racking to spend that money with a diamond broker. Fortunately he was recommended from a friend, but that didn't make the process any easier. I must have met 5-10 people and saw at least 20 stones. -- Thankfully, both Jodi and I want to have a tiny small wedding in Hawaii or something. Neither one of us wants the big traditional thing. What a waste of $$$$$. Picture of us from two months ago at a wedding. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...brary-3048.jpg I would post some pics of us from Vegas, but we were pretty blasted all weekend. Don't want to embarass ourselves.. Thanks again all. So happy to share the news with all of you. Best, Seth |

Nice choice on the ring. Princess cuts are my favorite. You got her a nice chunk of ice. As my broker said, nice princess cuts are easy to find but great ones are rare. I too was lucky that we found an excellent broker who my brother used. I am now in good company with a clientele that includes Wayne Gretzky, Cami Granato, Markus Naslund and half of the Vancouver Canucks. (We bought ours in Hollywood North - Vancouver, Canada.) I'm a hockey player so I expect my picture to go up beside all of theirs. ;) We're doing the whole wedding circus so there's money flying that way too. I got a much smaller stone than yours but it's over a carat so I did okay. We got a gorgeous E (almost a D!), VS1 with perfect dimensions. Most people think it's a 2 ct. It is so nice I even catch myself staring at it. What is wrong with me? I'm not a chick! :tsk: |

-- What's worse is, now every time I watch tv and see a football player or rapper, etc. wearing bling, I find myself guessing the stats of the stone. At the very least though, it would seem that diamonds are an appreciating asset, not like handbags and shoes . Not that they are to be sold like a commodity. Hopefully they will stay on the finger forever. But at least in theory, they should go up in value. |
Congratulations. If you take care of her as much as you take care of your cars, she's in for a treat :) Congratulations and all the best to both of you.
BTW, after a few years, they usually want to upgrade the diamond. Kind of like us and our mods, so just be forewarn :bustingup |
Congrats! Here's to a long, healthy, happy life together!
ATB, Zach |
BTW, is the xoutpost.com gang invited to the nuptials? ;) :D
-Zach |
Great news, Seth - Congrats!!
|
Damn bro... you're gonna have issues soon!! don't you know that there's a 5 year rule?? as in 5 years from now.. u're gonna have to upgrade that ring... hard to upgrade a 2.6 karat VS2, F... the next jump is gonna be even more painful... ;) :D :bustingup
