Looking to buy a motorcycle
 

I just got my motorcycle permit and am looking for a good starter bike....anyone have one for sale or see any for sale around?

My votes would be a turbocharged Hyabussa or a Yamaha VMax...in my business we call cycle riders prospective decedents

how many cc are you looking at?

Actually I just got my bike permit also.....I want to get it in the summer after finals are over....I was looking in the 500 - 600 cc range.....I have read and heard that one should start off with 250 cc but you can get used to the power easily....I was looking for a Ninja or Yamaha R6.....I really want a Buell XBR9 but it is too powerful for a beginner bike......I think 500 - 600 cc are a good middle ground but it depends on how comfortable you are with the bike.....

Definitely stick to 250cc for a while if you can. It's too easy to become a statistic when first starting out. I remember many years ago when Kawasaki introduced their Mach3 500cc triple cylinder 2 stroke. A lot of people were caught out with this bike, both experienced and inexperienced.

My first bike was a 900 and after three 1000's I have a Kawi-ZX-12R today. Great all around bike (for anyone 6' + the smaller bikes are tougher on your body). What you want depends on what you want to do with it.

Your intial comment was a bit vague. What type of riding do you want to do? Sport, cruise, or touring?

Are you a truly new rider? Meaning no dirt bike experience. I rode dirt bikes growing up so my first street bike was a '98 CBR900RR. If you really have no experience buy something small and cheap. You won't be using it for that long! A friend of mine went through a lil 250, a 600 and then finally got himself a 1000 in just a little over a year.

Be careful. Please. Wear in the very least your leather jacket, gloves, jeans and boots. Make sure the jacket has thick protection inside of it. Mine saved me on a slide or two. No passenger on the back until you are 110% comfortable riding and even then question weather you want to take that kind of risk.

There are two types of riders.... those who have fallen and those who will. Dress for the fall and not for the ride. And, yes, I hope these words come across as ominous.

I started out with the Ninja 250 and progress up from there. Right now, I am riding a CBR600RR. I agree with everyone - start off small, don't jump into a large liter bike. There is a new Ninja 250 just came out...it has a nice body and all-around starter bike.
