that question can't really be answered, you would have to state a specific issue.

I would suggest that he not get an 04 without CPO. Especially SMG! The problems are endless and expensive from what I've been told. The iDrive will be a source of constant pain. I would agree with Wags, tell him to go for a 650. Early 07's could be coming off short leases soon.....Phil

about 3 months back, it was coming up on 55K miles and there were a boat load of electronics problems, even under CPO I had the car in the shop constantly...

too much of a hassle...my last go around with 1st MY Bimmers :(

Picked up a DD 2008 Maxima for now. I'm focusing on getting some garage queen in the future ;)

Putting 25K on the Bimmers was killing them. Active steering went up in the 545 as did the cd changer, the 645 lost its electronic stack. The best Bimmer I had was the E53 X5 :thumbup: Blows my mind when people say "...my X5 sucks..."

To clarify, he's not getting the SMG 6 series.. he would want to get the 645, and add the SMG or SSG paddle shift mod (like we do with our X5s). you think there are CPO 04s out there? If not, he plans to buy an extended warranty.. not a good idea?

Get a CPO. You can find them.
