Another terror attack is an advantage for McCain?!?
 

On national security McCain wins. We saw how that might play out early in the campaign, when one good scare, one timely reminder of the chaos lurking in the world, probably saved McCain in New Hampshire, a state he had to win to save his candidacy - this according to McCain's chief strategist, Charlie Black. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an "unfortunate event," says Black. "But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us." As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. "Certainly it would be a big advantage to him," says Black.

Well, yeah it would be. People in the US are so short sighted, most of them have all but forgotten 9/11/01...if they weren't constantly reminded about it..they would have forgotten it by now. Sadly, that is the US of A.

Lest we forget...but to suggest it as a political advangage?

The people at the TSA have forgotten too. At ORD they were completely lax about the whole idea. Sometimes I mistakenly leave items in my bag when going to the airport, and so I have gotten scissors and a water bottle past a few times. I tossed the items before I boarded though.
But Canada's CATSA-ACSTA is miles ahead of TSA....

Here is a worse story, my father who has a metal brace, walked up to a TSA checkpoint and told the guy "If I go through that my brace will go off" The TSA persons response "do you have a ticket?", "yes", "..just go".

Now you are required to have a picture ID to get a flight....wonderful. Now just wait, pretty soon it will be a requirement for trains followed by "let me see your papers" when you go to another state...all to give the false impression of security.

I have yet to see a concrete example of how any of this non-sense has made the country internally more secure. Now, international flights maybe. But hops internal to the US, I haven't seen a "looky who we caught" yet.

I agree wholeheartedly- and my TSA example:

Last year I inadvertantly got a K-Bar through security in Savannah, GA. It was a gift to me from the USMC that day and I just forgot I had put it in my bag (which was a carry on).

When I realized it I said there's no way I'm going to back there and tell them- I'd probably have been detained for hours, missed my flight and my best nail scissors could have been confiscated too.

For those of you who may not know a K-Bar is a large knife (a little less than a foot long) designed to kill people.

I'd say...Box cutters are designed for cutting boxes. That however is a serious knife.
