There is such a thing as too much power. Unless you're tracking/competing, you don't need that much power.

But before you pull the trigger, can I urge you to go to a Harley dealership. You need not buy, or test drive.. Just sit on one before you make a decision. You might be surprised.

And, btw, I was intimidated the first time I went into a dealership, I knew very little about Harley's. You will be surprised how willing and helpful the sales people are. They will not treat you like an idiot because you don't know the difference between a softail and dyna. They will gladly educate you. Also, don't rule out the V-Rod either. It's an awesome bike.

If you buy a 600 you'll be looking to sell it in a week. They have limited power and you get bored quickly. Duc's are a nice show bike, but if you are lookin for performance, get a rice burner. The major differences in the 3 majors are very small. The biggest thing you should really consider is the riding position. Yamaha's sit very aggressive, Suzuki's are somewhat agressive and Honda's are the least aggressive sitting position of the three...but it is the most comfortable to ride IMO. I personally ride RED (Honda). You can't go wrong with either of the 3. The biggest advice that I can offer is this...
"Ride it Like you Stole it"...they are made to ride.

I with the last two guys! If you know how to ride get something a little bigger in the engine department! I couldnt beleive it but i actually got tired of my 750 and she has the full kit, intake, race exhaust, had the head ported, dynojet and a little dyno time gave me a healthy ~137rwhp what a diff it made from stock but i got used to the power in no time the thing fuckin comes up on me around 11,000rpm at full twist ! Didnt really ride this summer though, had a bad fall last year, and a 3 of the ppl i ride with didnt make it past july of this year so i'm in no hurry to get back on!

I would get the R6 but then i do work for a Yamaha Dealership :-) The new one looks awesome

people who complain about not having enough power usually can't turn fast... unless you are race-level rider, the 600cc bikes have more then enough power to scare the willies out of anyone...

but then again, 99% of owners of either sport bikes or sport cars do not have the skill it takes to competently control their vehicle at the limit...

when i tracked my cbr600 i smoked people with 1100cc++ bikes with all their mods out on track regularly... and the sad part is i'm not a fast rider. i was not at the level of power sliding/drifting nor controlled rotation yet.

its the same with the car world.. people do all these "performance" mods without truly knowing what it affects nor do they have the skill to utilize it... and they claim they are "used to the power". these are the same people that get spanked by the fast drivers in a spec miata with 1/4th their hp.

Come on man...we aren't talking about track racing. We are talking about all out enjoyment. a 600RR makes a good track bike because it has less power. A track bike doesn't require a lot of power. It's all about the set-up and torque. Why do you think a RC51 has less power than a CBR1000RR...it's a track set-up. It has more torque, a different riding position and many other factors. Again, it's a track bike. I wouldn't buy one for everyday street riding. All things being equal with price and riding skill set, you can't tell me that you would get a 600 over a 1000. That's like saying the stealer offered you a 4.8is at 3.0 money and you would say no.....PLEASE...your decision would have nothing to do with your track driving ability.
