In other words, there is an incentive to not push the young athletes to do the more punishing tricks, which will be useless at the time of competition.

So while the 14 year old girl may train her heart out, she won't be training to do tricks that are putting greater harm on her body, because of her smaller size, which is also causing more damage to her body.

Vin is right. These girls have been training and performing these crazy moves from the time they could walk. How would changing the Olympic age requirement really change anyhting? They are going to continue pushing the envelope on what is physically possible to get one more twist, one more flip, one foot higher, etc. They will be doing things in 8 years that make the flips today look easy. These girls do these high impact activities everyday before and after school in practice anyway. The only difference is that millions of people are watching in the Olympics and nobody watches practice. So what would changing the age requirement for competition sake really do? They have already been beating on their bodies for over 10 years by the time they are 14-16. The damage is done.

When I was 15, I had an ID that said I was a student at New York University and my major was physics.

My point is not that all Chinese are cheats and liars.. Who thinks that? That's just non-sense...

But rather, I still have a very, very difficult time believing that those girls are of age regardless of official documents.

And I don't the sincerity because of the nation they come from but rather because of the observation that those girls were VERY, VERY young.

What type of response are you expecting from your comment? You're turning a valid debatable topic into rubbage...the gymnasts were cleared. What do they have to do with the contamination crisis going on in their country? How old are you!?

I've seen an increasing amount of disturbing comments on this board lately...some of us are BMW enthusiasts that come together here to share a common interest and debate certain topics, news or to share a laugh. If you wouldn't say it to a particular race in person...keep it to yourself. It's easy to hide behind your computer isn't it? There's no need to drag members of this forum into your misery.

The topic was based on the age verification of the Chinese gymnasts, my validation is based on the fact that since the Government itself condones corruption to achieve their goals in any means, it clearly sets a example to the rest of the county and its people to give the green light to do the same, ....

Where have you been ??? living under a rock ? wake up and smell the coffee, have you not seen the news coming out of china...... Melamine in pet foods, toxic chemical in toothpaste, selling baby formula that had very low level of nutritional value back in 2005, which killed dozens of babies, industrial chemical found in gyoza(dumplings) in Japan, chemical fertilizer found in cookies in Korea, chines crabs stuffed with lead pellets to make them heavier sold in Korea, and now the Melamine in Baby milk....... for heaven sake don't these people have any conscious ??? Its Freakin milk millions of their own Babies..... the fact that Sonlu the biggest Dairy company in China knew about the Melamine over 10 wks ago and alerted the government but the gov. decided to hold off until the Olympics was over.... that tells how much integrity they actually have

And FYI... I don't hide behind any pc's and I don't mind speaking mind mind and debating this issue with any Chinese people, matter of fact I am also a Asian American, but oppose all the value of what is occuring around us, you on the other hand could not care less, because you do not think all this will effect you in any ways, think again...... as we speak they have found Melamine in Nestle, Mars, ( sneakers) Cadbury chocolate, and the list goes on..........what is really disturbing is people like you who couldn't care, but believe me it will effect all of us one way or another....... next time you go to eat @ a chinese restaurant think before you actually use the disposal chopstick in your mouth...... you know why its so white,,,,, the chines use industrial chemical to bleach the chopsticks....... its just the tip of iceberg...then again all this news might not be that bad in Ghana ???

chilliwilli 10-02-2008 04:44 PM

Where in my comment do you sense carelessness? If you wish to degrade Chinese people, or any other race for that matter, you're surely safe enough sitting behind a computer to do so. We don't need someones idiocy to inform us on the going-ons of other countries. The melamine issue has nothing to do with the OP's question. You could have at least been tactful about your comment...and you're supposed to be Asian-American?! Ignorance must be bliss...

OP...pardon the hijack.
