They're making great progress, Juan - it looks spectacular

That's one heck of a retaining wall you have there :wow:

Keep us posted on the progress....

Thanks on all the great compliments. Yes, we're really looking forward to it. I know you can't see from those pictures, but that is actually a lake house. We have about 100 ft. of water frontage. The house sits on a 23-foot high retaining wall that was filled in.

No, no Viking kitchen, B. We got some high-end, stainless steel GE appliances, and this coffee system, which was my request. We had to pay for additional cabinetry to fit it in. The media room will go in the basement (which has 12-foot ceilings, by the way :D), along with an entertainmenet area (pool table), two bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms, a wine cellar (though it's really just one huge, walk-in fridge), and a storage area. (Yes, all of that is in the basement... it's kinda big.)

Again, thanks for all the compliments.

Thanks, Jeff. That retaining wall you see there, is the "small one." It's only about 12 feet high, and it was necessary to put the driveway on top. The "REAL" wall is this one. To give you a perspective, that's the CEO standing on top. This picture is about six months old... they had not even started building the house yet. That wall you see in the other picture sits ON TOP of this one (as does the house, obviously).

Nice house Juan. I like the entrance where you plan to put stone. Did you pick out what kind of stone you are putting? Go with Cat 6 cable all the way. I noticed that Sub-zero and GE Monogram are pretty much close in price. I prefer Monogram but CEO wants the dual condensor Sub-zero fridge.

Juanted 09-17-2005 09:11 PM

Yes, we're getting Monogram, I believe. And yes, Cat-6 everywhere! :D

Not a huge distributed audio/video guy, but the house is structured wired in Cat 6 with a 1Gbit hub. The CEO picked out all the appliances, the lighting (the price of which almost made me faint!!), the tiles, the granite... well, everything, really. :o The ONLY thing I asked for was the coffee system and the structured wiring. Everything else I left it up to her.

DITTO!

The use of brick house w/o a photo of Vida or J-Lo, etc is a term violation... next time use brick-faced.

by the way - beautiful house!

Alright, alright... sorry, guys! Next time, I'll use something less obtuse. :)

Shaka and Taino (CEO) went the GE route with their best garbage disposal, dishwasher, microwave, stove and oven... never again. The dishwasher went down first - cost to repair was roughly the price of the unit new: replaced with a Miele (Dishwasher of the Gods and service by factory European trained technicians). The oven was next... the press button pad has failed twice... the rep said "looks like a little liquid got inside" to which I replied "huh, water in the kitchen. How could that have happened (in a really sarcastic tone)" - the part was under warranty, the labor isn't covered - GE charges by the job not the hour: Cost $240 per visit. Microwave: Vent collects dust and grease, then requires disassembly to clean. Stove - if you need high heat choose something else.

In hind sight, I should have gone with a Viking stove/oven, maybe stuck with the GE fridge but should have gotten a top/bottom instead of side by side.

Ugh...!! Sounds like a really bad experience. Sorry to hear that. We currently have GE stove and microwave with no problems. We DID replace the GE dishwasher, which was INCREDIBLY loud, with a Bosch.

You're right about Miele. They are the BMW of appliances. :D
